4/7 Gobbles PMPS 387 +4 283

Gobbles must of had his coffee early this morning; he woke me up in his usual cute fashion but it was only 5 a.m. We cuddled until 5:30, then I got up and fed him because he was very hungry. Four P's this morning: playing, purring, preening, peeing--had the 5th P yesterday afternoon.... He got a dose increase last night (even though it was only cycle #6 since his last dose increase). He had first started the Mometamax (ear drops with steroids) for his ear yeast infection on 4/3 (which was the prior dose increase), then off them for a day, them back on them starting 4/5. I am thinking his high numbers may very well be due to the steroids that are in the ear drops; the vet said his BG may go up while on the ear drops, but it is only for a week and the ear infection needs to clear up. I'm not sure which medicine in the Mometamax is a steroid: it contains Gentamicin Sulfate, Mometasone Furoate (<<--maybe this one is the steroid?) and clotrimazole. Has anyone ever had their sugar baby on steroid-containing eardrops? Or even any topical ointment with steroids? Did his/her BG seem to be higher?

People have used ear drops with steroids and BG has gone up. It's also possible that you're seeing some new dose wonkiness.

Mometasone is the steroid.

Thanks so much Sienne. It was a tough call last night to increase, again, only 6 cycles later; however, due to a few factors: (1) good chance that the ear drops are affecting his numbers, (2) his numbers have been terribly high and (3) yesterday evening, at about AM+11, I could tell just by looking at him that he didn't feel great (tired, somewhat mopey and lethargic). I am about 95% sure the lethargy/mopiness was due to that yucky 420 at PMPS. I would think during today's cycle, the increase will influence his numbers.

Georgia's Simon has often been on ear drops...you could also PM her and ask her about it. Good luck with the dosecrease!!

And WOOOHOOOOOO with the raffle's success!!! I can't wait to see who all the winners are!

It's interesting you ask that question, Kat, because it was steroidal eye drops that pushed Gracie over the edge into FD. She had had steroids orally and as soon as we realized they were spiking her BG (she wasn't dx as FD), we stopped them and her BG went totally back to normal for a few months. Then she got conjunctivitis and the vet felt the steroidal eye drops would not cause an issue for her. Wrong....it was the icing on the cake. Of course, I think there were other things that put her pretty close to that diabetic state but once one extra thing was added, that was it.

So I do believe topical meds with steroids can affect a FD's numbers. IMHO. And probably ECID.

Thanks Amy. I sent her a PM just a little while ago.... OMGee! I am totally floored with the success of the raffle; thanks to all the donators and ticket purchasers, of course :-D And I'm so excited to get the tickets pulled; I'm working on a sign of sorts to post the winning tickets (Gob's idea).

You know, Gobbles' had a near perfect Senior Profile in September of 2012. At that time, he was having allergies from fleas. The vet (since fired--this is the one who, even though Gobbles BG was over 500, insisted he could go into remission with D/M dry & wet and would not prescribe insulin) gave him a shot of steroids to control the allergies. Well, in November, Gobbles had all the classic diabetes symptoms, and was diagnosed on November 12, 2012..... I really don't like giving him the ear drops, but it is only for 5 more days and the poor thing has been plagued with black gunk and itchy ears for far too long... Thanks Marje!

Tis true; the brat did have an entire piece of filet...as for ice cream today? He'd probably get the squirts :lol: That picture makes me want to go to the Dairy Queen, however, the closest DQ is about 20 minutes....

I am so immune to cat poop that I still want an ice cream cone....oh, the joys of motherhood :-D

Hi Kat. Gotta say the ice cream cone on the deer cam is the best yet. You out did yourself with that one.

PurrFace had a problem last August (pre-dx) and the vet gave him a steroid shot. Very shortly thereafter he was dx with diabetes so I would say steroids do increase BG levels.

Congratulations on the successful raffle. You did a fantastic job Kat.

I don't know if I'll be able to top the soft serve deer cam :lol: Sounds like steroids are bad news. If I wouldof known that the shot he received last fall could cause FD, he would of never got the darn shot :-x Thanks on the congrats and thank yi=ou for your generosity :mrgreen:
