Thank you for all the feedback and support yesterday, everyone. I have a call in to the vetty to ask her a few questions about the ACE Inhibitor before we start it, but I have to admit, having Trix's BP even a little high makes me so nervous that I am fairly certain we will go that route once I get the last little bit of clarification.

I also have to admit that I am getting frustrated with treating my poor kitty for her kidney issues and her BP and I feel like we are not only getting nowhere, but we are backsliding. I mean really...BP being worse AFTER medicating than it was without meds??? What is that all about??? That's one of the questions I have for my vet - I'm curious about her thoughts on it. I'm sure there must be some sort of "behind the scenes mechanics" relating to the CKD, like what Marje posted from Tanya's site last night (I'm still trying to absorb that info). It's frustrating, though.

But, Trix is happy despite the bean's frustrations. It's kinda nice that they don't know all the medical nonsense that we do. Yet another reason to want to come back as a well-loved housecat next time around  !!

Trix is loving the lagoon these last couple days...at least I can say THAT isn't frustrating  !

I'm off today, so hopefully I can catch up on condos in between chores and such. Have a great day, LL!

Amy

Hi Amy,
I love reading about radiant Trixie!! I love hearing how good she feels despite those other numbers in her life.

My vet had wanted me to start Cleo on Enalapril 1.25mg BID due to her one elevated BP reading. It was taken when she was in for her dental. And I bought the pills and did try, but she is quite impossible to pill. Doesn't like pill pockets, even rolled in good stuff. I had it compounded into a liquid, and at first I could get that down her, but kitties are smart, and soon she fought me tooth and nail. Then she became harder and harder to "collect" for a test and/or shot, and then I eventually gave it up altogether. Do I have great guilt over this, oh yes. But, Cleo doesn't hide all the time since I stopped, and we are back to our "normal."

We have a vet who comes to the house, and I think I may try her for Cleo's next exam and bloodwork. She also has a stage 1 heart murmur, that can go to a stage III, when she gets stressed at the vets.

Good luck with everything - You will have an unofficial degree in kitty BP meds, along with one in FD, by the time you are done!

Hope you have a great Sunday~

Trixie is looking lovely in the lagoon again. I hope you get some answers from the vet.

I know how you feel, when you feel like you're paddling backwards  . I hope the vetty can clear up your questions and get a good treatment in place. It's awesome that Trixie doesn't care and is hanging in the lagoon anyways  . I love that she is so happy. I hope you're enjoying your day off today and getting some relaxing done :-D

Re: 4/6 Trixie PMPS 83 - Spoke with vet

I spoke with my awesome vetty earlier this afternoon about adding the ACE Inhibitor in to Trix's routine. As always, she thoroughly answer all of my questions and explained things very well...I am definitely comfortable with adding the ACE Inhibitor into the mix in hopes that it along with the Amolodipine will bring her BP down a tad more. Vetty did say that this is "it"...if the combo of these two meds doesn't bring Trix's BP down, then there really aren't any other options. She also said that Trix's BP is high, but if the new med combo doesn't work, she's at least comfortable that she is basically out of the range for stroke and blindness. So the objective is to try and nudge her BP down the extra 10% that the ACE Inhibitor should do.

She also said that if the kidney values worsen from the new med, it's not because the CKD is worsening. She did explain why - serious medical stuff that is over my head but has to do with the RAAS stuff that Marje pulled from Tanya's site last night.

With this new med in the mix, we recheck both her BP and her kidney values yet again in 2 weeks. Poor Trix with all these vetty visits now  . We're checking the kidney values almost 2 months ahead of schedule because of the ACE Inhibitor. We shall see.

I ran out to buy some fuds and treats this afternoon and completely forgot to look for Wild Callings ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ....I'll try do that sometime this week....

Re: 4/6 Trixie PMPS 83 - Spoke with vet

Oh, Amy, I really hope this new combination of meds works for Trixie. Just remember - she's radiant, and that was a beautiful PMPS!

P.S. You're still taking care of you right? Don't forget that step! :YMHUG:

Re: 4/6 Trixie PMPS 83 - Spoke with vet

One other thing I forgot...vetty also said that it is possible that the ACE Inhibitor could improve her kidney values. Naturally, we'd rather have things head in that direction than the other. She also said she has never actually seen kidney values worsen in any of her patients; she just has to let us know because it has been reported that kidney values have worsened after a cat has started taking the ACE Inhibitor.

Thanks for the visit, Shelly...yep, I try my best to take care of me, although it's not always easy when you just want to "fix" someone you love!

Re: 4/6 Trixie PMPS 83 - Spoke with vet

Hi Amy,
I am glad you had a good talk with your vet about the ACE inhibitor.
I really hope that the combination will work.

Trixie's numbers are lovely, and I'm so happy she's her happy self. :-D

Re: 4/6 Trixie PMPS 83 - Spoke with vet

Hi Amy,

Fingers and paws crossed that it will all work out well. There sure is a lot to learn!

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 4/6 Trixie PMPS 83 +2 124 - Spoke with vet

Just wanted to pop in and see what the vet said. Trixie's numbers are looking fantastic.

Major paws crossed that the benazepril and the amlodipine will do the trick AND Trixie's numbers will come down. Perhaps the combo of the two will lessen the pressure in the blood vessels in the kidneys and allow the creat to come down. It's fantastic that she's doing so well clinically.

You are AWESOME!!!

Re: 4/6 Trixie PMPS 83 +2 124 - Spoke with vet

Did someone come up with the phosphorus values for the Wild Calling foods? I remember we were calculating all the other values last September.
I'd like to know what the phosphorus is.

She has decided blue is the way to go this evening.

Rhiannon...Rachel&Chynan Ann, John, & Tess did the legwork for Wild Callings - if you look at their condos from 4/5 (or maybe it was 4/4???) you'll see the details, but here is a chart that I believe John created:

Wild Callings SS

Time for this bean to crash....

Well, I did the SS , John double checked my calculation. ;-) We didn't get the info on the turkey or their , mixes flavor food for some reason, it wasn't on the data sheet so maybe it is new. I'll update the SS when I get the info.

Hi Amy:

You've had a busy few days with Trixie, it seems. I'm glad her numbers are so good and that she seems to be feeling well, despite all these issues. Sounds like you have a fanatastic vet. I'd hang on to that one!

Sending lower BP vines for little Trixie. :-D
