I think you are talking about a food test....sometimes when a kitty is close to OTJ, and a shot needs to be skipped for some reason, a food test might be suggested. Basically, you test as usual for a PS test, and feed but don't shoot...then test a few hours later to see if the number is rising or dropping. The value is seeing if the pancreas is producing insulin or not, but it isn't used too often here in LL...only when a shot needs to be skipped for another reason, usually.
As to feeding after nadir, and the reason for not doing it....once you are past nadir, the numbers are rising (by definition), which means that the insulin's effect is waning. If you feed then, it accelerates the rise...which tends to lead to higher preshot numbers.
