4/6 Thoughts on my chosen course of treatment?

So we just passed our 2 year anniversary of first dose. She has been doing quite well up to the last few days when her usual tummy troubles cropped up. (chronic GI issue crops up every 4 or 5 months, treated with metronidizole typically resolves in couple of days) Anyway, brought her in for a check and to get her pills. Vet says she hears a grade 2 heart murmur. (Sya is 13 yrs 8 months). No other history of this. She questioned if I wanted to proceed to a cardiology referral right away. She also suggested that there could be thyroid issues cropping up that might be causing it. (though she has no hyper-T symptoms.). or it could be stress of the vet visit. We settled on bloodwork for Thyroid panel (figured can't hurt to check her current status on everything anyway and was feeling flush with my impending tax refund  ...havent done so since the Fall) and will recheck her in a few months to see if we still hear things assuming nothing comes up on the bloodwork. Does it seem like a reasonable course of action? I mean I figure when I do her next dental its worth revisiting the cardioissue pre anasthesia, but beyond that , is it worth persuing more than just monitoring it?

Sounds to me like you made a good decision to run the bloodwork. Seeing the cardiologist... maybe something to consider - I'm not sure.

I know sometimes the vets assume you don't want to go an extra mile; other times they make you feel like you need to. The bloodwork should give you a good idea of where she's at. You can go further if there's any indication you need to. I had a dog w/ a heart murmur since she was a puppy. She lived to be 16!

Yeah, I guess I'd feel like if it was more urgent if we had an impending need for anasthesia or something, but right now it just seems like more stress for all of us. Oh well, guess will wait to see what comes of the bloodwork. Vet said she'd call me Monday nailbite_smile
