Hey everybody, sorry we haven't been around all day. Everything is fine but it's just been one of those days. Choco seems to be surfing his booty off tonight and I'm loving it because I am definitely ready for bed. I hope that everyone had a wonderful hump day. Talk to you all tomorrow. :mrgreen:

I do hope you see this post tonight or in the AM. Choco has had 7+ days in solid green. How about shaving the dose to 0.1u?

Hmmmmm, I gotta tell you all that every since I've started giving him .25, I've had the top of the black plunger hitting the bottom of the very top line. I just figured .25 must be between the top of the .50 and the bottom of the next line up. Looking at the picture that Jill just sent (thank you by the way:), it looks like I've been giving him even less than what the picture is showing. Soooo, I have not clue now what dose I've been giving him this past week. Oh boy, I think I might be in trouble huh?

I can try and go to the middle of the very top line and that might give him a drop.

I actually just put some water in one of the needles to see what would come out if I did this and a small drop does form at the top but it's not enough to push out. It just sucks right back up in the needle when I release the plunger.

looks like it's time to try an OTJ trial.

I just filled the needle again to see what exactly I have been giving him and it has been a drop. Oooooh, this is scary. I say we go for it! I know you all will be watching but at what point number wise would he need to be put back on the insulin?

Maria, why don't you put in what you are shooting now, then slowly release it a drop at a time so you know how many drops you're shooting now, and if it would be therefore possible to shoot less.... or am I just crazytiredconfused and that is just what you just said?? :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

okay! let's see what choco can do!

as far as restarting insulin goes, we would be looking for an upwards trend... NOT a single high number. it's normal for many kitties on trial to occasionally throw a high number. if you see one, don't shoot. post the number and ask for advice.

i want to check on billy and then i'll be back with libby's OTJ instructions unless someone posts them before i get back.

this is exciting!!!

I may not have explained it clearly Christie because I am uber tired. I did just fill the syringe to where I have been filing it the past week and all that came out was a single drop. When I tried to cut that in half, it was basically trying to push out a smaller drop but just got sucked right back up in the syringe as soon as I released the needle so he wouldn't be getting anything even if I tried.

Here's what you do:

Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. It is not unusual for cats to get lots of blue during their trial, especially at first. Don't panic and don't shoot unless we tell you to.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support she needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Whoooo, this is exciting. I was hoping this was coming but certainly wasn't expecting it so soon. Choco will be very happy. I will definitely be curious to see what the near future holds with his numbers.

Jill, the only problem with this is, I will not be here to recheck in 3 hrs if he is blue during the week while I'm working. Is there something I can do if he is in the blue and I have to leave?

seriously, i wouldn't worry about it. if you're not there, you're not there. test him when you get home. hopefully, he'll have brought himself down by then.
