Ok, it is 7 hours after his AM shot. he isn't really eating and he vomited about 30 minutes ago. Clear liquids. He isn't wanting to eat anything except cat grass- which he is going to town on. I don't really know what to do right now. This morning he gave me fits trying to check his bg and give him his shot. I did have a little come back on my hand, but it wasn't a whole lot. The first day and a half after he got home from the vet, his bg was good- like between 100-250 range. I think we had that for 2 readings. And then yesterday, it jumped and has stayed above 600 so my meter can't read it. I have tried giving him freeze dried chicken, shrimp, salmon, turkey livers. I have tried giving him Beyond kibble (vet said give him anything he will eat as he is still getting over the dka), tried giving him some Tiki Cat high protean kibble. Tried Fancy feast wet catfood, tried Tiki Cat high protean toppers, tried FreshPet chub food (don't remember exact name).

I don't know what to do and it is the weekend and the vet is closed. I do have some appetite stimulant that they gave us for when he first came back home, but we can't get him to keep the darn pill down. He is still drinking water. He doesn't seem like he is acting drunk or anything. He is having bowel movements that look normal. I haven't witnessed him pee so haven't been able to check for ketones. He just seems tired and resting a lot.

Edit: Just got a BG test, it is still reading HI so >600.

I don't know answer to your question, but if you go to thread tools (near top on right) you can edit title. Then to left you'll see no prefix. If you click on that it gives you choices like question mark or 911.
Hope that helps.

For eating do you have any cooked chicken? Maybe that would entice him.

Update- just got back from the store and got some chicken going in the instant pot for him with some water for broth.
I decided to stick a can of TikiCat in the blender with a little extra water and he is lapping it up!

Glad to hear FB is eating!

Those high numbers are likely from a bounce. He got at least as low as 101 yesterday, maybe lower, but nonetheless, those are numbers he's not been used to lately. Keep trying to get a ketones test. The broth, yummy food with water may help. One other thing for the next shopping trip is all meat baby food. Some cats find it hard to resist. You want the one that is plain meat. Beechnut and Gerbers have options.

A couple options going forward you can consider. First, mirtazapine is available as an ointment called Mirataz that you just smear on the inside of his ear. Besides being way easier to give, it is less likely to show any of the side effects of mirtazapine (yowling, restless,etc.). The other item you probably want in your home med kit is an anti nausea med. I find ondansetron the best. You get a prescription from the vet and can get it filled at any human pharmacy. I hear Costco has good prices. Normally ondansetron is a pill, but you cat it as an injectable that lasts longer than the pill, and is good for when you can't get anything down via mouth.

Just took Fuzzy's +6 pm blood sugar and it is going down!! It is 448 right now! Thank you Wendy&Neko for the suggestion about the chicken. Seriously, thank you big time. He ate it up. I pureed half with of the shredded chicken with some broth and stuck the rest in ziploc baggies. He chowed down on the puree as well as some chicken shreds. He seems to be doing so much better tonight. Thank you. I truly mean it.

Whoohoo! Keep on coming down FB. He can't live forever on just chicken meat, but it's a great tool to have around. Years ago I made friends with another FDMB member who lives near me, and she had made Neko some puree chicken meat with some cat food premix added, making it a complete meal. This was when Neko had so many things going on and wasn't eating much. But she loved that chicken puree.

Any luck on ketones test yet?

I'm sorry, I thought I had added it yesterday, things were quite chaotic. Yesterday I did manage to get a urine sample from him and there were no ketones present when using the dip stick.
