Good Morning LL! Muffin is having yet another CP flare, and this one is all my fault...again. I had the girls spend the night before the first day back at school after spring break, and in the morning hustle to get them out the door on time, I left their breakfast dishes out. When I came home, Muffin was happily having pancakes and loads of syrup. This was Tuesday morning. So I've been watching for a flare, and sure enough....Wednesday night she wouldn't eat her dinner. Yesterday morning she wasn't interested in breakfast, although she did eventually eat it at some point during the day. Then in the evening her fur was pokey and I could tell she didn't feel well. Tested and got 213. Gave her bupe, which really made her spacey for the first time that I've really noticed. She just laid on my bed staring off into space. Wouldn't eat last night, but I made sure to put out food anyway, in case she wanted something overnight. By the time I got up this morning, she was eating a little of that. I tested and got 170. She only ate a tiny bit, but she seems to be feeling a little better than last night. This afternoon I'm taking her in for a cerenia injection. I'm not going to bother paying for BW, as I'm reasonably certain of what's going on. I'm going to monitor her BG for a couple of days before making a decision about insulin. So far it's not all that high.

In other news, I took Shnookie to UC Davis for his pre-I131 exam. The IM vet is not entirely convinced he even has hyperthyroid, and was discussing his case with the resident expert there, who's been studying feline hyperthyroidism for 40 years. This dr wants to use Shnookie as a learning/teaching experience, so they have offered to pay for the thyroid scan that they do to figure out dosage for the I131. Then we will take Shnookie off the methimazole for 2 months and they will pay for a repeat scan, looking for proof that he even has the disease. So I am excited and proud that Shnookie will have the opportunity to help others in this way.

Healing vines for Muffin. Poor baby. Very exciting about Schnookie's contribution to veterinary science! :-D I hope they get a good dose for him.

Hi Anne,

Bummer on Muffin's adventure with the pancakes and syrup and its aftermath!! I hope this is just a momentary thing. Muffin, you must learn self-control

Very interesting about Schnookie. He'll be written up in the journals!! Good luck with it all. It would be great if he doesn't have hyper T.

Have a good weekend. Sorry about Muffin!

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Pancakes and syrup. Oh my.... What a little carboholic!!

Had you thought about trying some Pepsid and seeing if that helps? Before we were thinking in terms of an anti-nausea medication, Jojo (were you around then?) always suggested Pepsid with a cat prone to pancreatitis.

Hi guy s.. oh my muffin! You just couldn't resist those pancakes could you? Hope you continue to feel better .. and how awesome is it that Schnookie might be able to help out others! Have a great weekend guys!

Thanks for your well wishes everyone. Pmbg is 44...I can only assume because she hasn't eaten. I gave her a half slice of oven roasted turkey lunch meat, and put out her dinner. I'm hoping the lunch meat will stimulate her appetite. She went in for a cerenia injection this afternoon, and they are ordering pills for me, but they won't be in until Monday. So tomorrow I'll take her back in for another injection.

To answer you, Sienne, I do have pepcid, but this vet who fills in for our regular dr on his days off says cerenia has anti-inflammatory properties, so that's why I've chosen this route. This is the second time Muffin's gotten cerenia - the last time it really did seem to help her feel better, but so far this time the results haven't been quite as good.

I did give bupe this afternoon, but only half the regular dose. Muffin sat in the pantry most of the afternoon anyway, poor little baby. Now she's laying on her kitchen chair, but I think I'll bring her up here with me while I watch Touch.

My Shadoe had frequent CP issues, and I was giving her pepcid AC 1/4 tab BID for months. It did help here a great deal. When she had flares, I always had bupe on hand, and I also kept fluids at home... you may want to talk to the vet about getting a kit to have at home.

When I switched to a new vet, he suggested I switch to giving her B12 shots weekly as it helped with inflammation. What do you know, within a few weeks I was noticing a difference in her, and I no longer needed to give her pepcid every day. She also had only 1 mild attack in the months that she was getting the B12 shots.

You may want to speak to your vet about your giving B12 shots at home.... 25units in U100 syringe once a week. There are many benefits to the B12 so it's something to consider.

I'm sorry to hear about Muffin. I hope the cerenia shot helps her feel better soon. Hopefully she'll recover quickly and won't need insulin.

That's great they are offering to pay for the scans for Shnookie and use him as a teaching example. It would be great if he doesn't have Hyper-T.
