Last condo
I can't believe that it's been almost two weeks since I've posted a condo.
Work has been extra busy. We are hosting a conference this weekend and that means long hours getting everything organized. On top of that, students are now able to register for summer and fall classes so I've been spending a lot of time in advising sessions... and all of that is in addition to my regular teaching schedule, meetings, class prep, grading...
Since I haven't been home enough, Walter is way overdue for a dosecrease. But I decided that it's safer to keep him in higher numbers for a while. Not ideal, but we'll get back on track. Mandarin had a rough couple of days last week. I was starting to think that he was coming out of remission when I saw those higher blues (167

). Luckily, he managed to come back down. I think he is so attuned to me that it really stresses him out when I am stressed or upset.
The rest of the zoo is doing okay. Lenny is still going to water therapy twice a week. He is doing well there and can now walk 3 blocks... but he is still extremely slow. I am trying to not get too impatient - I know it takes time, but it's still difficult to watch him struggle even on short walks.
Jersey managed to somehow get into my cabinet and ate an undetermined number of Glucosamine chews (my best guess is about 30 or 40). Luckily, they are not poisonous, but they cause severe digestive issues. I won't go into detail, but it wasn't pretty. At all.
I've also spent some time helping a homeless lady with her cat. She used to stay in an abandoned house on my block until code enforcement kicked her out. Her new cat is a big, handsome black tomcat who somehow managed to injure his paw. Even though we have several programs in town that offer financial assistance for vet care, all of them require applicants to submit tax returns, TANF information or some other proof of financial need. Since Linda doesn't have any of that, she has been unable to secure help. She clearly loves her cats and I am glad I am able to help her, but it is hard dealing with homelessness, mental health problems and addiction.
A huge part of me wishes that I could find a safer environment for her cats and it just about broke my heart when I returned Romeo to her. However, he is now neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and had his wound cleaned. He also got a Convenia injection and pain meds. I just hope that she will actually continue to give him the meds. Yet even though this is by no means a safe environment for her or for her cats, I have no doubt that her cats get more love and attention than lots of animals that are owned by wealthy people. Her cats always have food - even on days where she struggles to feed herself.
