Good morning LL-
Sorry I did not get back to the board last night. It was my late night at work and it was a pretty intense day. Thanks for all the good advice, support and words of encouragement. You guys are the best.
The vet called me back and seemed baffled by FBs elevated BG and lethargic symptoms. I told her that when I googled whether clindamycin had sugar in it (I had read the insert in the box and it did not mention any concerns), the website confirmed it can elevate blood sugar. She said she uses it for all her diabetic cats with no concerns stating that the human version is cherry syrup flavored and would cause problems but the vet version has limited ethanol in it. However, I did inquire whether all those other cats she treated were still on insulin; and she confirmed they were.
She was not willing to confirm or deny that the antibiotic was the trigger for his elevated BG instead suspected that it was stress or that he may have gotten a stomach ache which elevated his BG and she also wondered if he had any dormant problems that were being exposed. Therefore we decided the best option was to discontinue the antibiotic, monitor his BG and reschedule the surgery. She wanted to see if he would normalize before proceeding, which I agree. And we will switch to the clindamycin pill in the future (though she said it tastes horrible and w/ FB getting extracts she thought it would be harder on him and us to administer). Last night he tested 98 before dinner and then 2 hrs after eating he was back to 74. This morning he is 93 and while higher than I like (and what he has been) at least it seems as though Mr P is working. And he is all happy, playful and purry again. Sitting at the patio door crying to go sit on the balcony, playing w/ his little mice. Yep, seems to be back to normal.
Why won’t vets believe we know our babies better than they do? He just can’t tolerate any sugar at all. And any means any; no matter what the form it comes in!
Thanks for the reminder on the probiotic, Marje. It has an inulin base derived from chicory root but after researching it, it does not appear to be problematic. The vet said she uses Hetastarch during the surgery if his blood pressure drops to low.

). Tomorrow it will be exactly 6 months since FB got to start his trial.
