Hello, it's been a while. I've had Dixie off insulin for 26 days now. She has been staying in the greens for the most part. Before this, she was on a drop-dose for a few months. I've tried her OTJ a couple of times before, but she went up to the blues so we put her back on insulin pretty quickly. This is the best OTJ-trial she has done yet.

The stickied posts for OTJ say the range should typically be 50-80, but Dixie is often in the 90's and sometimes 100+. I remember there was a post here where a bunch of people who successfully got their cat's diabetes into remission answered some questions (I can't find the post anymore), and it seemed like the majority of cats who were successful were only on insulin very briefly. Dixie has been on insulin for almost 3 years now, so I wonder if maybe it is expected that her BG values will never get back to that low range that cats are supposed to be at?

I'm going to take her in for a vet checkup. I suspect the vet will be fine with her current numbers. I remember their BG goal was pretty high when she was on insulin.

I'm open to anyone's opinions on this. I'm trying to find a balance between her health + reducing hypo risk + reducing time spent tracking her. My current reasoning for getting her OTJ is that her BG already stays pretty low, so if I did put her back on insulin then I feel like I'd need to track her BG even more closely. Are her current numbers harming her? or maybe just making it more likely that she falls out of remission?
