Day 3 of Basaglar

Well I was a lot happier with today's AMPS than yesterdays!!

The adventure continues.....So far, so good!!

I still have a little nagging suspicion that the Basaglar doesn't hold quite as long as the Lantus, but we're going to hang in there (for now) and see how it goes

At least Deputy LagoonMistress China is getting her paddling time in.....that's what's important to her mama!!

Hi Chris, Looks like a good cycle for our Deputy LagoonMistress.
Thanks for your help with the Relions. I got a box today. Only problem is they gave me a 6mm needle (the prescription said 8mm). Anyway, I'm happy to have them to "experiment" with. The Monojects are too unpredictable because Rusty's dose is so small.

Glad the Basaglar seems to be working more or less like Lantus.

Interesting adventure, Chris! :)

I was looking into Basaglar a couple weeks ago and found the following worth noting...
According to this article from September 2016, the FDA has not approved Basaglar to be called a "biosimilar". Instead, the FDA is calling Basaglar a "follow-on” biologic rather than a "biosimilar”: FDA approves Basaglar, the first "follow-on" insulin glargine product to treat diabetes.

A couple of quotes from the first article:

  • In an ADA published article, researchers defined biosimilar insulin as insulin created to be very similar to the original or reference insulin as described in its patent.
  • Eli Lilly’s website states “Biologics are large, complex molecules developed by pharmaceutical companies using a unique manufacturing process. Biosimilars are medicines with similar structures developed after biologic exclusivity periods expire."

I'm not yet sure what all this means to our diabetic kitties, but watching your experiment with great interest... good luck!
