Yesterday's Condo

Furry purry boy woke me up 30 min. early with a trip to the litterbox, so he got 30 minutes of good lubbins.... lots of pets with a thorough check of his skin...still all clear!

We are headed btb... but below is a clip I've edited from yesterday's condo regarding the mysterious Wellness white chunks... did some googling on the intetwebs last night!

I've found references to both 3 oz. and 12.5 oz. cans being manufactured at the NJ Menu Foods plant. Note that Wellpet provides the ingredients... whereas in the recent Menu recall, the problem was with ingredients provided by Menu.

This may very explain why people are observing different things, and the observations tend to be similar by can size. What is concerning me is that while the CORE recipes contain white potatoes, the basic grain free chicken does not. While it is possible that the white chunks I saw were peeled zucchini (which is listed in the ingredients), they did look and mash like potatoes. The observable vegetable chunks (I noted sizable carrot chunks as well) may not be the result of a formula change; it may just be that this particular lot of large cans didn't get the vegetables cut as fine as usual.

I'd encourage everyone who uses Wellness to post their observations, including can size and can stamp info over on the thread in Health. The more information we can collect, the more informed we can be. With Wellness being a go-to food for so many of us, if the problems observed by some can be avoided simply by changing to a different can size, that is very helpful information for board members to have.

Enjoy your btd and cuddles. I've found Maggie can't eat the Wellness cans with vegetables. It really spikes her bg. She can eat the bg chicken but doesn't particularly care for it! I buy the smalll cans. Have a nice day.

I use the small cans of Wellness as it's their snacks, raw is their main food. This is all very interesting info though, thanks for posting.

Huh. Thats awesome that they have a thread open for this. A lot of people do feed Wellness. Hope you figure it out Christie.

Thanks for the Wellness info! I'll have to post over in Health this evening...running a bit low on time right now. I'm still transitioning Trixie over to BG chicken myself, just to see if there's a difference. Like Ann said, though, Trix doesn't seem to be in love with the BG; when I put BG and Wellness side-by-side, she tends to go to the Wellness first. I hadn't thought about the white chunks being anything other than potatoes...

Hi Christie, Thanks for the heads-up on the link to the Health discussion of Wellness. We use the 5 1/2 oz. cans and I haven't noticed any big chunks of potato. I had always assumed potato was one of the veg. ingredients, but when I read the label I see that it is "sweet" potato. Many sweet potatoes are white in color (yams are the yellow or orange "sweet potatoes", but real sweet potatoes are not the same as yams). Whatever. The Wellness Turkey is Rusty's favorite food and I'm going to continue to feed it. I just looked at the labels of the 5 1/2 oz. can and the 3-oz. can. The 3 oz. is "product of Canada"; the 5 1/2 oz. can says "made in the USA". I haven't ever used the 12-oz can.

Good morning guys .. beautiful numbers so far today willie! That's interesting research on the wellness .. our girls tried both the chicken and the turkey and turned their noses up at it a long time ago .. Which was probably a good thing .. a little to $$ for our budget! have a great day guys!

Hi Christie - wow on the health link - very cool. I feed wellness some, along with Merrick, the 5.5 oz cans. Haven't noticed the potato issue, but at that hour of the morning I'm lucky to notice anything... I will pay more attention the next time I serve and post on Health.

Nice on the 30 minute early wake up call and subsequent cuddle time. :-D YES on the all clear skin! That is awesome - I remember what a problem it was before. That must be so nice to see. :-D

Woo hoo! Hoping he saw lower today, but even if not, we'll take it! We are currently engaged in a battle of wills over the fuds. Willie will eat if push comes to shove, but because I'm here, he feels compelled to show that he is not a fan of the current 2:1 Raw/BG mix. What he doesn't know yet is that if he is a good boy and finishes off the BG, he may get some of the Fancy Feast or 9 Lives I bought today at Walmart.

Evening snuggles and playtime have been had, and he's now curled up on my purse, apparently sending the message that this evening's planned CVS trip isn't Willie approved!!

He is shedding like a mad man these days. I am going to try a furminator on him... should be here tomorrow or wednesday.

I always wanted to be able to do that to these cats of mine that will not stop shedding... the vacuum always seemed to be the perfect solution. :lol: :lol:

I think thse two boys of ours have been plotting these numbers tonight.... I can just see them hoovering over those liver smoothies today, planning it all out....

Very nice cycles for Willie today!!! Thanks for the info on WN....I have not noticed any change at all to our 3 oz cans; I'll have to look at the labels and post on Health.
