Hi, I received Maggie's b/w results back late yesterday afternoon. I missed my Vet's call, and he's out of the office until Friday. Overall he said her b/w was good, but one kidney value did go up slightly, which unfortunately is the creatinine.
It's an attachment on PDF Adobe, and I'm not sure how to link it, so I'll just list the renal values which are of the most concern right now. Everything else was good. He said her diabetes is under excellent control with a glucose reading of 137, very good considering Vetty stress. Phosphorus is good, too. I have a comparison of three months ago, but I'm having a hard time showing them side to side for some reason with my WP software.

BUN 41 (HIGH)
(Range) 14-36 mg/dl
BUN 47 (on 1/06/12) (HIGH)

Creatinine 3.1 (HIGH)
(Range) 0.6-2.4 mg/dl
Creatinine 2.8 (on 1/06/12) (HIGH)

BUN/Creatinine Ratio 13
(Range) 4-33
BUN/Creatinine Ratio 17 (on 1/06/12 (HIGH)

Phosphorus 4.2
(Range) 2.4-8.2 mg/dl
Phosphorus 4.9 (on 1/06/12)

Her BUN and Phosphorus came down, but Creatinine went up. I wonder if this is why her b/p was high on Monday with her kidney values slightly higher? Maggie's Vet said her b/p check in three weeks will determine when we need more b/w. Opinions very welcome on Maggie's renal values.

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 155 AT B//W results back!

I wish I had some great insight, but know someone will. Not bad AMPS for Maggie today! I'm sure she will be green in no time.

The 5th p for Tarragon is funny. DH and I have an ongoing joke about it. He calls me when I get home from tbp and asks if it is an aromatherapy day. Have a great day Ann!

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 155 AT B//W results back!

I've got no idea about kidney issues, I hope it doesn't mean anything too serious for Mags though. Sending kidney vines.

Oh wow, Vyktor, congratulations.
Now you are Maggie's superhero, as well as bf! :-D

I didn't know cats could blush but Vyktor seems to be. He asked me to post this:

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 155; +3 90; +5 101 B/W results back!

+9 129
It looks like surfing the blues, but now she's giving me the face "I'm starving." I gave a snack.

Serryn, that is adorable. I showed it to Maggie, and now she is blushing!

Melissa, you were right with the green!

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 155; +3 90; +5 101 B/W results back!

Nice to see the greens back for Maggie. I know the Creatinine is more important than the BUN. BUN is often higher for cats on a high protein diet and isn't necessarily a problem. It's good to see the Phosphorus down. Are you giving binders?

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 155; +3 90; +5 101; +9 129 B/W results

Ann, yes on the binders since early January, and also I changed her food to Wellness Turkey. She's eating it but sometimes asking for FF, especially the FF T&G. I need to get on one of the renal message boards. I do have one on my Favs and have browsed on it. Maggie's numbers have been really stable.

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 155; +3 90; +5 101; +9 129 B/W results

Hi Ann,
Sorry not to know anything about the bloodwork results. But your vet doesn't sound too concerned and most of the tests were normal, so don't worry about it now!
Very nice numbers today.

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 155; +3 90; +5 101; +9 129 B/W results

Yes, I know I do tend to be a worry wort! With the creatinine slightly elevated since last b/w, it places her in the Stage 3 category of renal disease, so it's a concern. But Mags is her usual purry self, so that's a good thing.

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 155; +3 90; +5 101; +9 129 B/W results

Hi Ann
I know nothing on renal values, maybe cross post in health, u mite catch someone's attention for the specifics
Good to hear not much news is good news for Maggie.

Re: 4/4 Maggie AMPS 155; +3 90; +5 101; +9 129 B/W results

Ann, Maggie's lab results look very similar to Cleo's, although Cleo's BUN is higher. I think I seem to remember something about how giving fluids may cause some of the numbers to elevate or decrease. For the life of me, I can't remember exactly. Does Maggie get subq fluids? The person that you may want to talk with is Marje (from Marje and Gracie). She helped me alot. Also, Claudia can help with specific questions. I'm sorry I am not that great of a help. I need to get on the CRF website to get more informed but there are just so many hours in the day. Have you also looked at Tanya's website? There is so much information on that site. I will get you the link if you do not have it. Hugs to you and Maggie. Glad to hear she is feeling well.

Re: 4/4 Maggie PMPS 138 B/W results !

Hi Georgia thanks and yes, I do have the link for Tanya's site and have been studying it from time to time, a wealth of good info. No fluids yet. There is also a message board that I think you and I both have a link. I seem to remember discussing with you. I used to browse on it from time to time. Yes, I will get with Marje, too. Does Cleo get bw every three months, too?

Thanks Ronnie & Luna, good idea to cross post. When are we going to see a condo on Luna, hint, hint! We miss you but do understand life gets busy.

Re: 4/4 Maggie PMPS 138 B/W results !

Ann, yes, Cleo gets bloodwork every three months. So far, she has had 3 checkups. All her numbers have stayed fairly stable and the vet thinks she is doing pretty well except for the nausea issue she is having recently. Does Maggie have any issues with nausea?

Re: 4/4 Maggie PMPS 138 B/W results !

Hi Georgia, sorry to hear about the nausea with Cleo. I hope the shot will help. No, Maggie hasn't had any nausea issues thus far. Most of the time her appy is good. She sleeps a lot, but then that's a cat! :-D

Re: 4/4 Maggie PMPS 138 B/W results !

Sorry i can't help with the BW results, i seem to remember Leo's vetty saying BUN numbers can be somewhat attributed to dehydration? Does that sound right? I know you're probably worried (i know how you feel, i'm a worry wart too) and hopefully you'll get some answers as to Maggie's BW soon.

Have a great day Ann and Mags.

Re: 4/4 Maggie PMPS 138 B/W results !

maybe Karrie & Maverick might have some insight as well?

wow...hope it's not a problem for our sweet manxie girl!!

lubs ya, maggie...and your little mom too!

Thanks everyone. I do have a pm to Marje to take a look. The Vet thought overall she was doing well; we'll just watch the b/p next time in a couple weeks and b/w. My little friend and her Mom from my last apartment complex are coming over for a visit, so I'm scrambling to clean and get rid of some clutter. For just me I tend to let things lay around. I call her my little friend, as I've known her since she was six months old, and now she's 15 years old. Maggie is having her sun bath, and I have to squeeze in another poke. Her poor ear!

Ann

It's great that her BUN and phosphorus are at such nice levels. The phosphorus is a big issue with CKD kitties. As far as the creat goes, it's usually recommended to start fluids when they get to about 3.5 on the creat OR you can start a bit sooner if they are constantly drinking and peeing. While generally it is recommended to give fluids daily, if Maggie is just starting some PU/PD, even every other day or a couple times a week might support her. I'd definitely discuss with my vet but if she is not PU/PD, I wouldn't worry too much about it. The best scenario is for Maggie to drink water and stay as hydrated as she can on her own. When the time comes that she is not able to do that, then you would want to use the subqs.

Subqs can help to maintain creat levels; the only time I've seen creat/BUN come down drastically is when kitty is on IV fluids in the hospital. So even if you were to start them (which I would think is not quite necessary yet), you might not see much of a change in the numbers.

What did your vet say?

Thanks Marje for the helpful info. No, Maggie is not excessively drinking water or peeing. My vet is out of town for two days, so I can discuss either tomorrow or in two weeks when Maggie returns for a b/p. He left a message late Tuesday, but I missed his call. Overall he's happy with her b/w and mentioned one of her kidney values is slightly elevated from the last b/w, which is the creatinine, but no changes indicated. The b/p reading will determine when the next blood test will be, but most likely in three months if it's okay. The Vet has been very thorough with her care. Thanks again.
