Still trying to regulate food. Kushi was used to having constant access to (dry) food. So now that she is on wet, I'm not quite sure how much to feed her. I'm aiming for a routine of twice a day with a few snacks thrown in along the way. She' on EVO, but want to get her on Friskies or something a little less expensive. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Re: 4/4 Kushi AMPS 318

Good morning guys .. I don't think I have ever been in Kushi's condo so wanted to drop in and say hi ... I know that a lot of people on here feed several small meals throughout the day to help the kitty's pancreas .. Not sure if you are able to do that or not with a work schedule or anything, but auto feeders are also a good investment .. We feed mocha special kitty, which is a wal mart brand .. you can get 4 5.5oz cans for $1.34 .. she eats turkey and giblet's which is low carb at I believe 3 carbs .. we fed her the same brand, beef liver dinner for her MC when her numbers would drop low .. Hope that helps .. have a great day guys!

How much does she weigh and how much is she eating? Is she eating wetfood with no issues? What treats are you giving? Many of us give our kitties purebites freeze dried chicken - its just pure chicken and its like kitty crack  Maverick purrs for his needle and pokes cause he knows his reward. No affect on BG.

Every cat is different for calorie needs. Do you have a babyscale by chance? The best way to know if you are feeding enough is to weigh her. If she is losing, feed more, gaining feed less.

Maverick up until this week did great on the walmart special kitty brand foods - turkey and giblet, chicken dinner and ocean whitefish and tuna. The small cans, not the big 5.5oz ones. They are different - they have carbs.

Hello there - we use a lot of Fancy Feasts (3-oz can @ WalMart for 47¢). Here is the list of the LC/gluten free varieties:

We also us Friskies Special Diet (mostly beef & chicken and beef & Liver @ 4% carbs) but I usually have to get them at PetSmart.

Take care. Wishing Kushi the best & out of the pink, pronto.

She is 13 pounds and I weigh her on our digital BR scale, by weighing us both, then me and take the difference. She is eating wet food with no issues (so far). Her treats are "Greenies".... I know we need to switch. Where do you get the purebites?

Hi....here are the treats we buy at PetSmart for Zoe - she LOVES them!

Treats

I use and auto feeder with Zoe - by freezing wet food and water I can set it up to open every hour or every 2 hours depending on how much she's eating. It is really helpful, when I need to be away from the house for several hours. Here is the feeder we use:

*edited to add feeder info..

Just make sure which ever you choose is pure chicken and not a mix of things. You guys in the US have much bigger selection than we do up here. And if you get it in the dog section you pay less than the small packages in the cat section.

Now sherry, I note these treats are for dogs....Kushi won't start barking will she??

Re: 4/4 Kushi AMPS 318 +2 209

I'm pretty sure she won't or at least Zoe hasn't yet! They are so much cheaper to buy the ones in the dog treat aisle instead of the kitty treats - amazing!

Hi Joe!

Just to give you some more options, here are the treats I feed Bandit: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11147080&cp=3237714
You can get them at PetSmart in the cat treat section. I get the Salmon and Chicken ones. They also have shrimp but neither of my cats would touch the shrimp, including Bandit, the feline garbage disposal. As long as the ingredients say only freeze dried chicken or freeze dried salmon, then it doesn't matter if they're in the cat or dog section. :-)

Here is the feeder I use (I bought two of them). I love that you can program it for any hour in a 24 hour period, and it proved to be the only only feeder that Bandit (who I am convinced is half racoon) couldn't break into.http://cgi.ebay.com/4-DAY-LCD-AUTOM...313?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20b82f49d9

Binks is a dyed-in-the-wool Friskies guy...

i wasted a whole lot of money and a whole lot of time on the expensive brands...
until i realized he had simple tastes!

Thanks to you all........got the freeze dried chicken (dog) treats today; Kushi won't touch 'em. Go figure. Will keep searching.
RE: Automatic feeder: May I assume that there is no danger of the food(wet) going bad over a 12-24 hour period?

hi there

wet food stays pretty good in a feeder. you can add a small ice cube if you like, or some feeders have a spot underneath for an icepack.
my kitties go thru all the feeder foods by noon, so it doesn't stay in there too long anyway.
I keep my wet food in a sealed glass container thru the day on the counter, as my civvie (non diabetic) doesnt like cold food. so it's always room temp for both of them.
