Day 2 on Basaglar

Well, once again I was not happy with that AMPS at all, but I'm liking the PMPS a lot better!!

Since I did give a teeny bit more last night due to wonky syringe lines, with that 137 this morning I decided to just hold it

Hopefully the reason for the blues was needing to establish a depot with the Basaglar and she'll be back to her green little self now! :D:D:D

Thanks to all who are supporting us and watching to see how this great experiment goes!

Yo Deputy China, We have the same PMPS! Let's have another party in the lagoon!

Hi Chris, China's numbers look good (after AMPS). Here's hoping that her depot has acclimated to Basaglar.
Thanks for the tip on Walmart.

What does this mean?
When you change depot insulins (like Lantus or Levemir) the depot of the former insulin gets gradually "replaced" by the depot of the new insulin . Even if the dose is the same, in order for the new insulin to establish itself in the body (acclimate itself), the old insulin has to be completely out. At least this is my understanding. I would presume that it would take a few cycles.

Tkx, Ella for the explanation.

Basaglar is the new "biosimilar" of Lantus.....now that the patent on Lantus has finally expired, other companies are free to offer "generics" (although in this case, it's not the exact same formula as Lantus)....the inactive ingredients are different, although it's still insulin Glargine, so I didn't think we'd have to start over with a whole new depot

Interesting. Did your vet write a new RX for the biosimilar? Or does the Pharm automatically fill the RX with the new biosimilar?

Yo Rusty, dude!! I've never heard of a better reason for a party!! Let's do it!!
Okay, @Chris & China and @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) , this is typical west coast thinking. If someone moves to another division within the same company, PARTY TIME!!!! I loved my 1 year there!!! When I left the dental office I was working at, )less than a year) they closed the office 1/2 day and threw me a big party in a park.! That did not happen with the dental office I worked at for 14 years hear on the East Coast............

Well, you know I'm one of those who thinks that it's crazy to try another insulin when China has such textbook perfect regulation on Lantus. But I hope your experiment is successful nonetheless :cat:

No to both....DCIN is starting to get some donations of Basaglar since it's the "new kid on the block".....also, several big insurance companies aren't paying for Lantus anymore, so human patients have to either go to Toujeo or Basaglar

We figured it was going to start showing up on the message board at some point, so somebody was going to have to see how it compares. Everyone here is very hesitant to give advice on new insulins, (especially Toujeo since it's a U300 Glargine) but with the Basaglar being a U100, we thought it would be good to learn how to use it.

I thought about it long and hard before agreeing to do it and then DCIN shipped me a pen to try. My vet has no idea about it, but I've never discussed China's diabetes much with her anyway other than saying "she's on X units and her BG runs between Y and Z"
