A trick that worked with my bunch is they hate it right out of the can...I have a couple confirmed gravy addicts. So I fool them into thinking they are getting gravy by adding a lot of warm water to it and making it about the consistancy of applesauce. I also use the warm water to get all the aspic jelly like stuff out of the can to make a fake gravy. Plus I mix the water in real well so they can't just drink the water off of it they have to get the food with it.
One of the differences between dogs and cats is the way they learn what is and is not food. Dogs instinctively know, which is why they automatically will chase a rabbit from the very first one they see...for cats they have to learn from their mother, so if they grow up on dry food they don't know what to do with canned, as well as they have no idea how to eat it. With dry food they use their tongues to flick it into their mouth, with canned normally they have to bite it, if it is straight from the can, by mixing in the water and making it really soupy they can again flick it into their mouth like they did with the dry. Plus it makes sure they get all the fluids they need, since they aren't really designed to drink from a bowl, because they are a desert animal, designed to get their fluids from their prey.
