Yesterday's good news condo
I got back a few minutes ago and BigMac is looking ok. Not a huge change, but he seemed a little bit brighter and he picked up his head when he heard my voice. When I stuck my hand in next to his face within the cone (of shame), he laid his head down on my palm. He also did his little head turn so he was looking up. So sweet. He would doze off as I stood there and is clearly very tired. It was hard to find a way to comfort him besides holding his head because so much of him is covered with bandages or has tubes sticking out. He didn't seem to be in any distress and I hope he is somewhat comfortable in his pain level.
The tech said he has been quiet but she thought he seemed a little better today. He stood up to pee/poo and tried to cover it before moving to the other side of the cage. It is a good sign that he cares enough to do this. His blood work has plateaued and didn't make a dramatic improvement like yesterday, but the doctor said this isn't too unusual because his digestive system has been shut down for so long. They are going to attempt to feed him by mouth in hopes that it will encourage the digestive fluids to start flowing again. We need that bile to be less viscous and thick. Medications can help but he has to get his tummy a bit more healed first. He is still getting nourishment via the J-tube as well and it looks like he received some plasma.
They have no estimate when he can come home since he has a long way to go before they consider it. But he has done well to take the onslaught that he has and he's improving little by little.
Today I took cupcakes, fruit, granola, protein bars, and snack chips to the hospital in honor of his birthday. I also clipped a little photo of him as a kitten to the front of his cage. So maybe he will get a few extra head rubs from the staff.
Everyone has been so kind and they are getting used to seeing me hang around. Hahaha! There is a large staff of doctors and techs and I think I've met them all by now. He's been there 8 days so far.
Here are a couple of photos I took this morning. I finally got a clear look at what it says on his body bandage and I had to laugh at the smiley faces and the "Go BigMac!"

It was a story that my mother often retold. I had to share, because at least you didn't tip over the birthday cake. :lol: Better wait until Big Mac gets home to blow out the candles.
