My human is worried about me, because my stool is becoming loose. Before I was diagnosed with diabetes, that is one of the problems he noticed. It's not diarrhea yet, but it's like human poop. It's not like a tootsie roll like it has been for a long time.

He promised to hold me steady on 3.5 units for four days, but he is getting nervous because the loose stool was one of the things that was occurring when I had untreated diabetes.

Any suggestions?

Any way he could have gotten into anything? Any spoiled food? If he continues to have soft stool, I think you should see the vet.

when i switched my kitties from dry food to canned food their stools became soft.
it took a couple of weeks after the transition to wet food for them to become normal. perhaps bagheera's body is adjusting to the change in diet...

My human doesn't think I ate anything bad, and the food shouldn't have been spoiled. He'll keep an eye out.

Today will be day number four at the 3.5 unit dose, so if we don't see improvement, I think it may be time for another boost anyway. And since the previous dosing regimen, even with its wild fluctuations, kept me from getting a loose stool my human thinks that getting the blood sugar under control will do the trick.

If not, it's almost time for me to go back to the vet anyway. I hate that cage, though!

Is any of the food beef or fish based? Some kitties have troubles with that. Squishy poo is no fun! I hope you get to the "bottom" of things soon

This morning I got sliced turkey and fish pate. But I've had the fish pate before and it didn't cause any trouble.

My human will check on things when he gets home tonight. Hopefully this is something that clears up soon. It's in the litter box, so it's not too much of a problem for him but he does worry about me when things happen like this.

I'm still being very active so he doesn't think anything is wrong with me. But then, I've never been a lethargic cat so it's hard for him to tell. I am too much like him in many ways. We are made for each other.

What brand of sliced turkey food are you using? Most "sliced" cat food is high in carbs -- usually around 13% or higher. Also, if you are routinely feeding anything other than pate-style food, the gravy in these other varieties contains gluten. Some cats have a gluten sensitivity and it can cause diarrhea.

Cats can have diarrhea or constipation issues that are not related to the diabetes. Peoples can get intestinal bugs that cause us softer stools or diarrhea. So can cats.

IDB, UTI's usually kick my cat into diarrhea mode. Last time I tried the pumpkin/squash 1T bid to firm things up. I like this better than using an antibiotic which will kill off the good bacteria in his system. Then need to feed probiotics to get him feeling better.

Is the poo watery diarrhea, squirting out in a stream more like urine? Maybe with a few larger chunks mixed in? You might need an antiobitic like metronidazole. No drug first option is to add a little canned plain pumpkin, 1T (tablespoon), to the wet food. You only want the pumpkin with no spices or other ingredients added.

Is the poo a little soft, pancake batter cconsistency? Add a little pumpkin, 1t (teaspoon)

Is the poo a little firmer than pancake batter? soft so it passes easily through his system? Just right.

Is the poo firm like a tootsie roll? Does it look dried out? That's pretty firm if it's as firm as a tootsie roll. Ok. monitor so it doesn't get too hard.

Is it hard little pellets, corn kernal size to extra large black olive size? More water needed, add Miralax 1/4 t BID. DEcrease if poo gets too soft like thin pancake batter, to 1/8 t bid. Increase if poo gets too hard and small with no give to it when pressed, 1/2 t BID. you can back down the dose from a higher amount. Or try the pumpkin first if your cat will eat it mixed with his regular wet food.

My cat swings from watery diarrhea to hard firm pellets. He is on miralax 1/8 t BID because we discovered 1/4 t bid was too much. Needs this on a consistent basis.

I am eating the Authority sliced food mixed with Nutro pate. Today it was turkey so let's hope that does it.

My human is obsessed with getting me the highest protein content possible. These have 10-12 percent protein. He didn't see anything that caught his eye when he read the label so he will likely stick with this.

As far as the consistency of the poop, it's not runny. It's like the poop my human has. It's softer than normal cat poop, but not diarrhea.

Consistency of the poo sounds just fine for now. ;-)

Well, I'm confused. On their website, there's no listing for Authority sliced turkey. There's a sliced chicken in gravy.

FWIW, there are several other brands of food that are at least as high if not actually higher in protein than Authority. I'd suggest you read Lisa Pierson, DVM's website on feline nutrition. She has a chart of canned foods along with the protein, fat, and carbohydrate composition on the website.

Ooops, sorry. It's flaked turkey, and it's delicious. Both Jacey and I love it.

My human came home from work and scooped the box and there wasn't any runny stuff. It was solid. So I think I'm doing okay.
