And for perspective, I noticed these two videos which I had not seen earlier:

Ella...thought of you this weekend with our big canoe event at the shop. It was very busy for us and lots of fun! A great success!! But, wow...EXHAUSTING! Seems the new climbing gym helped the department I worked in. Lots of new climbers coming in to get 'outfitted'. A video for you, Ella....

Tippie had someone (from FDMB actually) come in to feed her dinner the last 4 nights. Darn cat is so terrified of anyone but me. :YMSIGH: She hid the first 3 days, and would not come out from under the bed to eat until she was left alone. Thankfully yesterday, she stayed out for a bit...asking for pets. After a short while she decided to put on the scaredy cat role and hide again. It makes me nervous, since I will be taking a trip to Colorado at the end of next month. I am going to have someone house sit. The other alternative is having the rescue board her. I think that would be an awful and unfair experience to her. Praying after a few days of someone else being here she will warm up, AND that the person does not back out. Can't return a plane ticket someone else is buying for you. :? For someone who used to travel regularly, I am having a great deal of anxiety over leaving for a week. It will be good for me though.

I hope everyone had a great weekend, and all kitties are feeling well.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

I have never ever seen anything so adorable in my life!!! What an absolute doll .. sigh ..

I can understand your anxiety over leaving .. but I am sure after a few days of you be going tippie will come around to the house sitter .. enjoy your time away!!

I forgot to mention....
at the expo this weekend (with hundreds of people milling around the store), I noticed a man with a CAT on his shoulders.
Yup, 1yr old kitty in a harness, goes wherever he goes. She did just fine observing other people, and no issues with any of the dogs in the store. Only once did her ears go back...when she had a few too many admirers  .

I guess the guy takes her out kayaking regularly. Made me think of Joyce and angel Tuscany!

Now I have a headache from hitting it on my desk when I fell off my chair because of the cuteness.

I sent a link to the husband. His response..."OMFG!!!!!!"

Gotta love that Marshmallow and mom. Of course, with mom, there are all the toys in the room and what's she play with? The box!

Carolyn -- if someone is going to house sit, how about asking them to provide something like a worn t-shirt or something with the person's scent. Maybe that will get Tippie acclimated. At the very least, have the person over for a couple of visits.

Tess is a scardy cat too, but she would always eventually come out once she knew who the fuds were coming from!

You work at Midwest Mountaineering? on West Bank? I used to shop there all the time! I really miss the Twin Cities!

That's a good idea, Sienne!

I do plan on having him come over, hopefully twice. Once to go over stuff. A second time, I would leave and let him sit here for a few hours. I started getting worried today that with a new person she could become 'unpredictable' again. They gave her a rabies shot in June last year due to some of the random aggression she showed toward me. She is perfectly fine now, but with a new person??? :? How often do they need a rabies shot....just in case? The person I have 90% lined up is very quiet, gentle, and loves cats. He house/cat sits for other people, too. I've worked with him for about 8yrs. He will come/go and live his life (more than me, Im sure!). Probably the less he is here the better. I am just as comfortable with my back ups. Though I have never had anyone come live in my place before. Feels Kind of weird.

It will be interesting and a good test for both of us. I only agreed to fostering her if I could promise myself to work toward living with, not for a cat. The day I leave will mark our 1yr anniversary together. So I guess it will be a milestone in more than one way.

Yes, Anne! I'm at MWM very part time...Expo's, teach the climbing clinics, and now with my unemployment I pick up extra shifts when they are available. Been there 11yrs! Don't you think Ella would LOVE the shop?!?!

My cousin bought my plane ticket this afternoon!!!! nailbite_smile flip_cat flip_cat nailbite_smile

Carolyn, with my scaredy-cat (Mickey) I have heard that he really comes around on Day 3 when I am gone. My parents come over twice a day to feed and do meds. They don't sleep here. They say that he gets desperate for attention about then and will start hanging around and even letting my mom pet him a little. Then once I'm home, he immediately forgets all about them again. Whenever they come over for dinner or anything, he is back to hiding from them. My mom has two scaredy cats and they are the same way with me. One of them lets me pet him a little on day 3 or 4. The other doesn't let me pet her, but she does hang around at the edge of the room and watch me.

I miss the Twin Cities too, but not enough to leave Charleston.

This is definitely the FEEL GOOD condo of the day.....except when I was watching the video on my iPhone and walked into a door while I was at work.

Marshmallow is sooooooooooooooo darling. I had to watch it again in the safety of my home while sitting down.

Please continue post these. You made my day.

Hey Carolyn,
Thanks for the canoe & kayak exposition video. Those events are great fun. We go to one every year at Mountain Man Outdoors in Old Forge, NY in May. We see lot of people we know, try out the boats, try out the paddles, check out all the booths, shop in the tents and in the store, and, of course, eat junk food. We have another one here in Saranac Lake about a week earlier, but it is much smaller. The big thing this year is the Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP). I am eager to try one!!

I hope that Tippie will be fine when you go to Colorado for a week. I'm sure it will all work out. And once you have done it, it will be easier the next time. Enjoy your trip!

Ella
