Civies Leroy and Emma had extreme zoomies last night @-) Actually since I've had the windows slightly open the past few days (still cool-ish outside but a toasty 78 F inside), they've had the zoomies instead of curling up on the bed with me when I turn off the lights. I hope the person downstairs wasn't bothered nailbite_smile

Both have been enjoying the warm fresh air and sunshine from the open windows lately :-D

They like to watch the birds swooping in and out of the empty grassy lot next door and hopping around the grassy median strip outside. I don't think they saw the bunnies that were hopping around the lot yeterday afternoon.

Emma enjoys giving Leroy baths

Leroy tolerates it for a few minutes before he gets fidgety and pushes Emma away.

Does anyone have a good caption for this?

Maybe Emma took cue from the big royal event yesterday and decided to "knight" Leroy?

I bought four mini African Violet plants which came in the mail yesterday. One is called Smitten Kitten and it had 2 little tiny blooms when I unwrapped the pot. Today, one of the civies (I have a hunch it was Leroy) was apparently smitten by the flowers and pulled them off :o I found one on my desk and the other one near the pot. I have to put the plants away at nightnow until I take them to work on Monday.

Are we allowed to post separate Ooldtimer/Caturday reports? Or should those be included in Loose Lips?

I was wondering that myself. I posted a separate Old Timer condo last week. I would like to see them separate, but I bow to the wisdom of the community.

I would do the Caturday Oldtlmer reports because they are specific to you and people look for them under your name.

Off to paddle through the flooded woods. Back later. Rusty and Edward are home together.

This weekend I am missing Spring Training for Siamese Rescue. Spring Training last year is when I first met Jazzy! Remember Donna and Connor, who posted here for a while last year? Donna is another Siamese Rescue foster, and she and I offered to try to do a curve on Jazzy in between training sessions. She was over 400 the whole weekend. It's odd, I had been trying to help the rescue's directors with Jazzy by email and was suspicious of acro even when there wasn't much data. As soon as I saw her in purrson, I knew. She had the pot belly, the prominent lower jaw, and big feet. I came home and started my fostering training right away, and we transported her down here a few weeks later.

I'm sad to be missing training, but Jazzy is verra happy to not be there. Last year Jazzy was also one of the kitties who got to participate in the Intake Evaluator training. Volunteers were practicing doing evaluations as though they were in a shelter evaluating a cat to see if they could be accepted into Rescue. We were supposed to pick up on clues with the cat, their cage, litter box etc. to determine whether there were any health or behavioral issues with the cat. Poor Jazz was a big mess last year. She was in poor physical condition, and mentally she was depressed. What a difference a year makes.

I also had an (unplanned) opportunity last year to help with a training session on Feline Diabetes. Someone else was giving the presentation, but she called on me.

that's cool Libby, I didn't know you did that. one of my close friends volunteered with a kitty rescue group for a while but she ended up with 7 cats and it was too hard emotionally on her, so she stopped after about a year.

love the pictures, squeem! i never heard the "zoomies" before but knew instantly what you were talking about.

i don't think Loose Lips was meant to replace anything that was already going on, except the excessive chattiness within the condos. i'd guess you could go ahead as normal.

cool and rainy here today - kitties watching the bird feeder and snoozing.

Well the grey gary look-a-like has her own kennel at the shelter. She was snoozing in an empty litter box with a big pink stuffed toy! Workers have named her Quartz. Isn't that a pretty name...? They say she is very sweet and is already starting to come out of her skitishness.

The black tom was caught last night and I just dropped him off. He got loose during the trap/cage transfer ohmygod_smile and we had to physically catch him with towels and gloves on. But, as the patient tech said...it gave her a chance to really "see" him and he was put into a carrier to go directly over to the iso-ward instead of general intake. He looked ill and a bit raggedy.

So that has been my morning today! How is yours?

Linda: hope you are feeling better and I definitely vote for your own Oldtimer Condo on Caturdays.....it is special. Hope Miss Emily is better...I haven't had a chance to look at your update yet.

Libby: so sorry you have to miss that but it was very fortuitous for Jazzy that you were there last year. It's wonderful that you can help spread info about FD and managing it.

Karrie: anxious to hear how your babies are doing!!!

I'm working outside today and my back is killing me. Its been a boohoo week so I'm keeping busy.

Is it normal to feel jealous when one cat openly prefers the husband over me? Like big big time? Someone slap me.

The bond between cats and their owners turns out to be far more intense than imagined, especially for cat-aficionado women and their affection-reciprocating felines, suggests a new study.

Cats attach to humans, and particularly women, as social partners, and it's not just for the sake of obtaining food, according to the new research, which has been accepted for publication in the journal Behavioural Processes.

The study is the first to show in detail that the dynamics underlying cat-human relationships are nearly identical to human-only bonds, with cats sometimes even becoming a furry "child" in nurturing homes.

"Food is often used as a token of affection, and the ways that cats and humans relate to food are similar in nature to the interactions seen between the human caregiver and the pre-verbal infant," co-author Jon Day, a Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition researcher, told Discovery News. "Both cat and human infant are, at least in part, in control of when and what they are fed!"

For the study, led by Kurt Kotrschal of the Konrad Lorenz Research Station and the University of Vienna, the researchers videotaped and later analyzed interactions between 41 cats and their owners over lengthy four-part periods. Each and every behavior of both the cat and owner was noted. Owner and cat personalities were also assessed in a separate test. For the cat assessment, the authors placed a stuffed owl toy with large glass eyes on a floor so the feline would encounter it by surprise.

The researchers determined that cats and their owners strongly influenced each other, such that they were each often controlling the other's behaviors. Extroverted women with young, active cats enjoyed the greatest synchronicity, with cats in these relationships only having to use subtle cues, such as a single upright tail move, to signal desire for friendly contact.

While cats have plenty of male admirers, and vice versa, this study and others reveal that women tend to interact with their cats — be they male or female felines — more than men do.

"In response, the cats approach female owners more frequently, and initiate contact more frequently (such as jumping on laps) than they do with male owners," co-author Manuela Wedl of the University of Vienna told Discovery News, adding that "female owners have more intense relationships with their cats than do male owners."

So, yeah....jealousy....the other ....heehehehehe.

Darn cats are smart.

Uz haz dat one, I haz dis one...

I read once that every cat has his circle of humans. At the center is his/her Most Important Person. Then there is the first circle, where the very few other people the cat really likes are placed. The second circle, third circle, etc. etc.
Karrie, you should respect Henry's choice of MIP and be happy that your boys have bonded so quickly. This is wonderful. Don't resent it: rejoice!! A fine kitty who was alone for so long has his MIP Bean and his First Bean.
How's Victoria? Is she settling in, too? How's Nike doing with the two new family members?

Everyone in LLLL have a lovely evening.

Ella & Rusty

p.s. My paddle through the flooded woods today was wonderful. I wrote the details in Rusty's condo ; I'm tired and am going to watch a movie now.

yes karrie, so totally normal to feel jealous. the last cat i had, felix, i got as a kitten. i waited a year after my beloved TC died and went and picked him out myself on mother's day. he was never a lap kitty, and although he liked me, he was independent and he liked my husband at least as much if not more than me. i had mixed feelings about it . . . you do have to respect their choice, and it can be awesome when they want the bean to do something for them. gives you the opportunity to sit back. but i get it.

my mom told me it wasn't fair to felix for me to compare him to TC, that i should let him be loved on his own merits, not in comparison to another kitter. she was right.

it's still early with him and victoria - dynamics will no doubt change as the kitters settle in.

Chunk-lotta-love has A LOT of love to give

Gordo loves my bf more than me. Oh well...must be the testosterone.

Amy:    on the video. The tabby/white is so much like Tobey. In fact, while I was drawing insulin he was practically climbing my leg and he's 10 lbs now!
Thanks for sharing!

Karrie: it's ok....it's good for both boys to have each other. Gus has always been Mike's cat and it's wonderful to see their bond.
