Jenks started out with a beautiful blue morning reading, from which he predictably bounced high.

I'm worried about other human having to act on morning readings as they'll inevitably get lower. I'm going to have to instruct them on what to do. So is there any particular set of guidelines about when and how to shoot other than the sticky on handling low numbers?

I also realize that we're going to need to start getting some +2s and some +10s to get a better idea of how he's responding.

Nice start this morning. :-D If the person testing in the morning gets a number they are uncomfortable shooting, they can always post here with the number, before feeding, and ask for help with next steps. We generally say that the first time shooting under 150 it's good to post for advice. Over 150 should be OK to shoot. And when you shoot your lowest ever yet, it's good to get a +1 and a +2 test to see how the cycle will shape up.

If you do get a +10 or +11, then you have a better idea whether a low PS is a rising, dropping or surfing number. If the PS is rising or surfing, you'll likely be given advice to shoot. There is nothing wrong with shooting a dropping number, provided you have the data to do so. That sticky on shooting low numbers tells you what data it's good to have before doing so. For example, it you have some +1 tests, you'll have an idea what sort of BG increase Jenks gets from his meals.
