well he was a 54 this morning so I didnt shoot. He puked up what little breffis he ate. I am just wondering if we can start our trial? I have to start a new job monday so
I have been moving our schedule by 15 min the last day to prepare. but if we could start our trial that would be even better. What do you think?

yeah he has IBD. he has been pretty good lately so I have been cutting back on his meds a little. I was not really convinced it was IBD, thought maybe pancreatitis instead but I guess I was wrong.

I think starting a trial is a fabulous idea. What a great way to celebrate a new job!

Here's what you do:

  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).
  • If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!
  • Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. It is not unusual for cats to get lots of blue during their trial, especially at first. Don't panic and don't shoot unless we tell you to.
  • After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck!

Michelle, thanks! it is really great news! I just hope we have success!

well I am having one heck of a day! I was trying to bump everyhting back so I was ready on monday to leave earlier for my new job and I couldn't find my meter! It literally got up and walked away! I became panicky and ran to walmart to get another. by the time I tested we were a half hour past usual time but an hour past the 12 hrs. On top of it all he has been the puke king today! between puke and pee I am truly at my limit. I dont think I mentioned this last week but my civvie Riley peed on ME! he has done that 5 or 6 times and you can't imagine the level of humiliation. I have had him checked by the vet over and over and it is not a uti or crystals. It has become a behavior after a couple of utis and I am just spent. I have done enough laundry to open a laundromat. sorry for the rant, i am just tired. I love my boys no matter what, mamabean just needs a glass of wine. Night all!
