Good Morning LL!

Wondering if I should bump Guinness up tonight to 3.25u? Can't believe we are at that high now.

His vet called me last night to discuss his pancreas ultra sound results and said that sometimes the test will say they are normal and they aren't, so I'm not sure she wants to do the test. She mentioned discussing his case with another out-of-town vet who is an internal medicine specialist to get some ideas on how to proceed with him being both diabetic and pancreatic.

I told her I was uninterested in RX food and she said, "oh, that was going to be my first suggestion." She's anti-raw food, but could come around. It doesn't matter, because I'm going to do what I feel is best anyways. I'm still looking for the perfect solution. I thought the Cowboy Cookout I have been feeding them was great for all things, but I may have to bite the bullet and do the raw.

Re: 4/30 Guinness AMPS 343|+3 367 Dose Increase at PM?

Linda:

My read of the information on food and pancreatitis is that more is known about this relationship for dogs (i.e., a low fat diet) than for cats.

I think you're good to increase tonight.

Spoke to the vet today after she spoke with the specialist. She's recommending no treatment for Pancreatitis at this time since Guinness is displaying no symptoms at all. She did recommend getting some weight off him while continuing to get his BG under control. I don't look forward to that because that means feeding him less. When I feed him less, he meows more, a lot more. Might be time to break out that Prozac...for both of us! :o

So, My vet just wants us to keep her posted occasionally to let her know how his BG is doing. She pretty much said it sounds like I know what I'm doing in regards to his insulin and such, so keep doing what we are doing. So, now I'm just concentrating on trying to bring his weight down, which i find to be a very difficult thing. In the two years that he has been OTJ, he only lost about a pound and that was with me trying and restricting food, etc.

I really feel for you with the losing weight thing. Champ seems to hold on to his fat no matter what I do, maybe because when he begs me for food I give him "snacks." I mean, if they aren't put in his bowl, it's not a meal, right? We just need to be strong and say no. I bet they'll get used to the lesser amount of food and adapt...we just don't want to hear them complain about it in the meantime!!
