Yesterday, another blue day.

Quiet Easter weekend here. Weather is supposed to be yucky (and is rainy/windy now), so cats are curled on their beds inside. Neko is in her mode where it's easy to start the purr engine. :) I'm still giving her the Duralactin for inflammation, and she continues to have more frequent poops as a result. More every day than every other day now. Not bad for a 14 year old kitty who has had acromegaly for probably close to 4 years. Lu-Ann sent me a first draft of a document created by some acrocat parents that lists early symptoms of acromegaly. One of them is eye tearing - due to blocked tear ducts. Thinking back on things, that was Neko's first acromegaly symptom, about 9 months or so before her diabetes Dx.

Vines out to all in need today, including old man Scooter, Tess, Billie and Shadow.
 
Nice start for Neko. We sure could use some of your rain and I'm sure you wouldn't mind having some of our sunshine.:)

Wendy is it normal for a kitty to live as long as Neko with acromegaly? I think it is because he is so well monitored and loved. :)
 
Interesting about the eye tearing with acro cats. In hindsight, I guess with Polly an early clue was the stridor. Even asked my vet about it at her wellness check long before the FD diagnosis.

@Linda and Scooter & Jack - one of the benefits of SRT or stereostatic radiation therapy is that it neuters the tumor cells and slows down tumor growth and in some cases kills it outright. That said, Tommy who did not have SRT lived to 19 after four years of acromegaly. It's kind of a random condition, depending on many things, including where on the pituitary the tumor grows. Different acro kitties present with different conditions, although all as a result of the excess growth hormone. There's even some speculation that there are non diabetic acro kitties, like there are in humans with acromegaly. On a different but related topic, I heard of a youth whose dad wanted him to take growth hormones to grow taller. Knowing what I know now, no way that's a good thing. He was getting headaches like acro kitties are speculated to have too. Fortunately he stopped taking them.
 
I'm so glad the purring machine was going strong this morning--good girl Neko! :cool::cool: I read up on the Duralactin, but I fear the calcium in it would not be good for Tiger.:oops: But so glad it's working for Neko! I am with you, interfering with human growth hormones is not a good thing- more likely to scrrew things up than to fix a problem.:nailbiting::nailbiting: Have a great weeked Wendy

Our weather is about to get like yours (but with snow instead of rain). I saw a robin this afternoon!!! I hope the snowstorm won't hurt them, but I know how tough they are. I'll put out some grapes if there is a lot of snow on the ground.

Interesting about the acro symptoms. I'm glad that Neko is doing well.

Sounds like a good day for Neko, despite the coming weather. They say we are going to get some rain, too, but I'll believe it when I see it. We were supposed to get some on Tuesday, and all we got were a few clouds.

Neko, I'm trying to get a swimming party planned for tonight. Care to join in? Cinco loves company when he hits the lagoon, since he can't watch for sharks himself!
 
Nope, not up there, Neko! Interesting about the symptoms. I doubt a vet would believe that a cat could have acro from eye tearing, hard to enough to get them to believe it with a high insulin dose. We will trade rain for sunshine too.

She turned it around this afternoon. And the sky is clearing a bit. I wonder if we'll see the blood moon tonight?

I'm feeling a bit bummed. Just found out I'm not going to the regatta next weekend after all. Too many women bailed out of going to make a quad and some of the races I might otherwise go in are scheduled too close to other ones. You need enough time in between races to turn around both the races and the people. I finally get things organized from cat duty point of view and I can't go. :arghh: There are other regattas far away I can't go to because of Neko but this was one I had hopes for. I could go for one race in a single, which I haven't practiced at all this year. Seems a long way for one 4 minute race. Grump!

@ Elise, Carla, Linda, Marilyn, Ruth, Ella, Tricia, Liz, Rhiannon - Vetty checked that Duralactin was OK for cats with proteinuria, so I was OK with trying it. I had talked to her vet about the tearing before her diabetes Dx, but you are right Liz that vetty didn't even think Neko had acro when we got to 8 units. Thought she had to be a lot higher in dose. EACID.
 
Booooooo on the regatta...... I, too, hope there is something equally awesome to do......

Hopefully Neko gives you a beautiful cycle and hits those greens
 
What a shame you can't go to the regatta, especially after all your planning. Hope you find something equally enjoyable as an alternative for next weekend, if not, I'm sure Neko and Theo won't be complaining.

Interesting thoughts on the acro symptoms. I'm sure Crystal being abandoned/separated from her mother at 3 weeks old is somehow linked to her acro. I would be interested to read the final version, hope Lu-Ann will publish it.
