Yesterday's Condo

It figures. We pull the trigger and Cinco gives us a much nicer AMPS. We upped the dose anyway, and it appears it was a good decision. At least he didn't do a big drop the way he has been doing. Now we'll see how he handles the 1.25. Hopefully with something better than a mid-blue surf! Of course, we have one more round of boarding coming up - next Thursday through Monday. Assuming we're still at 1.25, we'll drop him to 1.0 again for that. Hopefully he'll react as he did last time and hold the reduction! Time will tell.

Cinco just hollered at me because I didn't show up at the conclusion of his +6 snack for his backrub. I answered the call.

Minka ate her breakfast this morning in one sitting, prior to tummy meds! She just had another snack with fluids. I get so excited when she does that, and then later she doesn't want to eat. She's really messing with my emotions.

Speaking of messing with emotions, Sasha gagged again last night! It was a much smaller piece of the TD this time, but just as scary. That's it for her and the TD or any kibble larger than the z/d (little tiny pellets). I'm starting to wonder if she's having some kind of allergic reaction that is making her throat swell, because I've been thinking that she seems to have trouble swallowing. I'll be watching her very closely.

Aha! Harvey just jumped up on the chair behind me, so of course I snagged him, bagged him and gave him his pills! :p I think he is torn - he hates being stuffed in the bag and having the pills shoved down his throat, but he loves the extra loving and scritches he gets. He purrs the entire time! I'm just glad we seem to have worked out a system that gets the meds into him!

I'm thinking of Linda and Scooter today with a heavy heart. She made a hard decision that proves how much she loves her baby. I'm happy for Deanna & Billie - as happy as one can be about a p-titis dx!

Sending healing vines to all in need, especially Scooter, DoLou, Tess, Billie and Doodle, and hugs to all their beans, especially Linda, Lisa, Ann & John, Deanna and Jennifer. :bighug: Prayers continue for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF, DH and DGD, Lisa's DF, Marje's DM and Elise's DM.

I totally forgot to mention that I wrote to Merrick to request the phosphorus levels of their grain free products, and I got a response the next morning:

Hi Patricia,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I am happy to provide the information you requested and please let me know if I can assist you with anything further.

Can someone please help me understand this? How do these translate to the way they are listed in Dr. Lisa's food chart? Thanks.

Holy smokes those phosphorus numbers seem like what I need for Jack. I will be watching what the others are saying.

I keep thinking to ask about this sleeve you are talking about. I am betting I could use it for Tater because he is such a hard kitty to catch and medicate. Where so I get one?

Gosh I remember how you and I used to fear pink and blue so much and now we take it in stride and still hope for green. :woot::smuggrin::joyful:

Those numbers suck Cinco a little green would be better bud!

Thank you for the prayers. I am much calmer today and Scooter is just his happy little self.:cat:

@Linda and Scooter & Jack It's called a Cat Sack. There are three different models. I got the third one, that has a full zipper on the bottom, as well, so that I could use it for just about any purpose requiring restraint. My pet sitter, Dawn, has one, too. She has to use it for Harvey, so I don't feel so bad that I do! Scritches to Jack and Scooter.

I'm sorry Sasha had another incident. I hope it's nothing serious. I hope Minka continues to eat for you. Good luck with Cinco's dosecrease.

Hey Cinco, my buddy, my pal!!...Looks like your mama did the same thing my mama did...she's jumping off the walls and screaming something like "Waaaa Hoo!!" so I guess I made her happy....or finally sent her over the edge! How about you coming on down to the lagoon with me and Max? We may do some swim-racing tonight to see who can get away from the sharks the fastest! ~ China

Wow...I think you're totally right in taking that food away from Sasha....better to be safe and deal with the dental problems another way! Mine didn't like the gizzards the first dozen or so times I tried it, but eventually they started gnawing on them at least a little.

Love the idea of "snagging and bagging".....can just picture what that looks like!...LOL

OK now Cinco...it's your turn to make a move!! Let's get out of those icky numbers and back where you belong!

Work it Cinco. The numbers and the back rubs!

Appy vines for the girls. No more gagging, Sasha! Way scary for everyone.

Just scritches for Harvey...I am smiiten with that boy.

Thanks for visiting, Carla, Chris and Marilyn.

I got a call from our vet to tell me Minka's culture came back clear. We decided to continue the Clavamox until her next UCD appt. Wednesday. I took the opportunity to ask her about Sasha's gagging, and she thinks it is tied to the asthma. She said because she is struggling to get deep breaths, she is probably breathing with food in her mouth and viola! She agreed that the kibble should be removed until the breathing issues are resolved. Sasha, meanwhile, thinks she's being starved. The Pred is definitely working it's magic with her! How I wish it did with Minka, although she's currently sitting in the kitchen giving me the Isn't it dinnertime yet? look. Of course, Minka is only on 1/2 tablet a day, while Sasha and Harvey are both on two full tablets a day. Sasha will be tapering down starting Sunday.

Marilyn, send me your address, and the next time Harvey makes me madder than a wet hen, I'll ship him off to you! It happens a couple of times a month, at least. Just last week he got up on the kitchen counter (a big NO-NO) and knocked over a vase of flowers.

The Aerokat came today and we've already had our first little training session - putting the mask over her face and counting to 10, then giving her a treat ( a very small one) and praising her. We did it several times and she did really well. I think we might get this working in a few days! Paws crossed!

Figures....China's up on shore minding the BBQ and Cinco's out splashing around making a fool of himself....LOL

That's far enough Cinco!! Time to surf in a little closer to shore!

Nicely done, Cinco! You are making great use of that extra juice.

Don't you just love it the way the companies give you information in their own private little code. I have no idea what they mean by "Unit Basis %" either. Units of what ? ? ? Do you have the carb numbers for Merrick? We stopped using it when they made all the changes.

did you see my note about the C.E.T dental chews? That might work for Sasha.

@Ann & Tess, just what Dr. Lisa had. I only asked about Phosphorus. I suppose I could write back and ask for as fed numbers for all the values. Worth a try, eh? The % is just referring to the Phosphorus % I guess.

Meanwhile, Cinco is just having a good ol' time in the lagoon! He hasn't been there in a while - guess he forgot how much fun it is!

Yes, but % of what? Everything in the can? Dry matter?

If it is the % of As Fed, the calculation is: multiply %Phos As Fed times grams per can, divide the result by the calories per can, multiply that result by 1000 to get mg of Phos per 100 kcal.

I hadn't realized that DR. Lisa had updated the list, there are a couple we could try again.

Thanks for sharing the joy of pancreatitis with us! I'm really glad the Aerokat training is going well - yay Sasha!! I figured you guys would get the hang of it quickly. Yikes on the choking/gagging incident :( I do remember Billie having some gagging/burping issues after eating before her asthma was under control. She was only eating wet food so it wasn't as scary, but I can see how it would be tied to the asthma. Sending lots of breathe easy vines her way!

You had a busy night:D:D:D but please tell me that wasn't a 561@+5:oops: It's nice to see that I'm not the only one with crazy typos in the subject line. For some reason I have a hard time once it's long to get it to take the numbers and have to erase and retype. You too?
