(((Barb)))
Of course you'll never learn to be calm. And you are in the very best company here who all share that sentiment. We are with you!
Glad he is willing to eat.

And hope he continues on his way down.

Re: 4/29 Checkers amps HI +2/542

Morning Barb ~O) ~O) ~O)

well oh my gracious! Checks! What are you doing.... Sorry Barb, I know how upsetting this is. It reminds me so of Mannie's bounces during March/April. He hit the alpha floor all the time. I had such a hard time getting that under control. and I know... why such a bounce from a 70. I wish I had an answer for you. and calm? I'm not too sure I was either. I finally decided to accept it, and go from there. There was alot of sighing in March and April. on a good note: It is good though that the +2 is headed down.... keep on heading in that direction Checks!

Have a good day today. At least Checks has given you a permission slip to go out if you need to or want to. Maybe a walk to see all those cows. ;-)

Re: 4/29 Checkers amps HI +2/542 +3.5/430

Morning Barb, well looks like Checkers is sliding down with the +3.5!! Checkers, what's cooking with you? Cone on down nice and safely. Hope he slides down nicely, Barb, as I know it's a worry on you.

Re: 4/29 Checkers amps HI +2/542 +3.5/430

I don't blame you for never getting used to the HIs. I'm sure Checks is bouncing, though...an fortunately he is heading in the right direction now. Keeping going, Checks!!!

Re: 4/29 Checkers amps HI +2/542 +3.5/430

I guess this is the day I should take advantage of, and get out. I need to get to a mattress store.

I've been spending hours and hours on the internet lately, researching mattresses. Trying to get details about what's inside a mattress is very very difficult.
I hate memory foam, and that seems to be the main 'ingredient' in all of them now.

It's impossible to know how much it's going to sink in, just by trying it in the store...especially with a salesperson staring and trying to help/make a sale.
I'd like to see diagrams online, and know the anatomy of the mattress.

I mention this cuz I'm hoping someone will steer me to a good website, or a great mattress that they have and love.

Re: 4/29 Checkers amps HI +2/542 +3.5/430

Hi Barb. Boy, when Checkers decides to bounce he doesn't fool around. As said by others, we all know how frustrating it is when we do all we can and then see high numbers. I'm sureyou'll see Checkers back in the green zone soon.

We've purchased a few mattresses over the years. One thing we discovered is that there is a big mark up on them and that you can definitely barter a real good discount. In most cases we were able to get between 25% & 40% off the tagged price. The only brand we could not get to barter was Select Comfort (the Sleep Number Bed). They are only sold through their own stores so you can't work two store's price against each other. The Tempurpedic brand was difficult to barter but I did manage to get them to drop a couple hundred dollars by pitting one store against another. After two weeks of research and bartering we finally went with The Sleep Number Bed (yea, the only one that wouldn't barter). I have an injured back and it seemed the best fit. We have it about 2 years now and love it. It has material that stays cool. Don't know how it works but it does. The Tempurpedic was great also but seemed to trap your body heat. Oh well, that's probably more info than you wanted but hopefully it will help some. Just remember Barter The Price down.

Have a great day Barb.

Thank you John. My problem is, I live so far away from civilization. All malls and bigger stores are about 50 miles, and I hate to drive.
I was trying to find a few that sounded interesting, before heading out. Once I find a mattress that I want, then my son will go back with me to haggle. I can't do that.
I found a wonderful Simmons in a local mattress store, and the woman wouldn't budge on the price! I left!

Checkers doesn't smell nice, and I don't know where it's coming from. I stick my nose all over his fur and it doesn't smell bad.
I thought he wasn't keeping himself clean, 'cause it hurt to twist and curl.
His mouth smells awful. Guess I need to make appt for Doc to sniff him.

Re: 4/29 Checkers amps HI +2/542 +3.5/430 +6/293

Afternoon Barb,
I just had this conversation with Deborah and all her back problems.

I don't like tempurpedic beds but I'm stuck with one unless money falls out of the sky.
Here's what I told her.....

everyone loves those beds but me. I have the tempurpedic cloud ( which is softer than the regular one) I have Rheumatoid arthritis.

I always had a sterns and foster before ....but now every one of them is making some version of memory foam....you can't get a regular mattress without it anymore except for the
low end. (well maybe ..but you couldn't when we were shopping for one)
I've gotten used to ours now but it's taken 2 years. (the sternsfoster memory foam version wasn't good and we traded up for the tempurpedic )

I prefer to be on top of the mattress...floating ( which springs do)
I don't like feeling like I'm encased (if you have the calipers from harborfreight - they are encased in a type of foam inside the hard plastic case)
and memory foam does that as it warms up. (you sink in a bit )
To me it feels like a saggy (boxspring) mattress .... I seem to have an overly exaggerated feeling of sinking in ( so that's just me but one other person I know with fibromyalgia feels the same way)

I think I feel that way because I'm a side sleeper... and I tend to draw my legs up so all my weight is in one spot.....
If you lay on your back with your legs straight, you don't feel sunk in as much.... the weight is more evenly distributed.

My husband wanted this bed because he claims he can feel the springs in a bed no matter how good it is....and I caved thinking I'd get used to it.
I wish I had tried the BeautyRest Comforpedic.... ( their version) .... it feels more like floating on top . That's what the lady with fibromyalgia traded
her tempurpedic for within her 30 day window. I've laid on hers but not slept on one overnight.
And after spending over 3k, I'm stuck with it until it wears out or money falls out of the sky. They also are warmer than regular beds in the summer... great if you are cold
but I'm not so I get very overheated in the summertime and have to use a chillow ( pillow that stays cooler)

When you start trying them out, just keep going back and visiting and stay there a while. ( I did, spent hours laying on different beds .... I should not have caved )

Tell the salesperson you want to make sure you get something you want so you'll be visiting often so they should just ignore you.
Take your own pillow and a blanket is a good idea too.... If I had taken a blanket, I'd have know how warm the tempurpedic bed could get.

The biggest criticism I have heard about the Select Comfort is if you ever have a flat or some other problem , parts take a long time to get....
They aren't so good about getting things that break fixed quickly. So you can wind up on your own guest bed waiting for the parts to come.

I will make sure the next mattress that I buy will involve me taking an actual nap on it in the store first.

H Barb, I'm glad to see Checkers slide down nicely. I'm also glad you asked for help on a mattress, as it's very educational for when the time comes when I need one. Looks like Checkers gave permission for you to leave today.

We hate memory foam as well. We ended up buying a iComfort mattress set--best purchase we ever made!!! It is not really memory foam, and we were not pushed into buying it... a little pricey, but with us both having bad backs, it sure make sleeping comfy and after the first night I slept on it, my pain was noticeably less! And most importantly--Gobbles loves it!!

Re: 4/29 Checkers amps HI +2/542 +3.5/430 +6/293 +9/252

Well, if Gobbles says so.. Tux thinks mine is great, but then, I kick off the covers and he sleeps on top of the bunch, with me ending up freezing.
I went to store no 2, in town and they had only carried Sealy and Tempurpedic. I didn't like any of the Sealys.
Went back to store no 1, lady didn't try to keep me, by offering a discount, so heck with her store.

Ann, I also like to float on top of something soft, for my shoulders, but need to sink in a little for the hips.
I'm going to be forced to drive to Buffalo, 50 miles....I really can't make several trips.

Did anybody ever realize, we are limited by our sugar cats? No??? .....hmmmm, well let me tell you.....

I'm liking that Checks is slowly dropping today. I made an appt for Wed, just for a checkup for him.
I don't like that he seems unsteady in his back legs....I could push him over with a feather. I don't like the way his mouth smells. I don't like that he smells unclean.

I so don't want to admit anything negative...once I put it out here, it's 'legal'...and scary.
I don't like that he's aging. *sniffle*

((Barb))
It's so hard to see our babies showing signs of aging.
I'm glad he has an appt. in a couple of days. I'm sending good vetty vines in advance!
:YMHUG:

Good luck with your mattress hunt!
I can't offer any advice ~ we got our from Costco several years ago (on sale + free deliv.).
It's a King, so it fits our whole fur family ~ and takes up most of our bedroom!

Nice slow slide for Checkers today. Sending good vetty vines for his appointment on Wednesday. Good luck finding a mattress that you like.

I'm with you on the aging.... altho' mine just turned 12 and is younger than Checkers. She's the oldest I've ever had. No one made it past 9 before.
And she's an only cat. No friend here with her.

Wish we could stop their clock.... and just keep them....
Hugs!

Hi Barb,
I'm glad that Checks came down for you today. I think you should take him to Dr. Dave and have his teerh and whatever else checked out. Those are whacky ups and downs!

I'll chime in on the matress issue. We have had a Tempurpedic for about 10 years. It took a long time to get used to. We missed the deadline for returning it (a nice, long deadline, but we missed it anyway), so we kept it. At first I described it as sleeping in a bed of clay! We don't like the memory foam aspect. But we came to a perfect solution: we put an all-cotton matress pad on top of it. Voila! We don't sink in, we stay cool. It works. I really like this matress now. And it has a very long life : they say about 20-25 years. And you never have to turn it or rotate it. This is a firm matress, regardless of what they say about sinking in. It is really comfortable.

The other matresses we really like are futons.

We once had the king of matresses--a horsehair one (it was on the Murphey Bed in one of our appartments). But it was elderly and the horsehairs kept working their way through the cover and sticking us. But it was so comfortable for a long time! (We took it with us when we moved because the new owner of the apartment was going to get rid of the Murphey bed.)

Good luck!!

Hugs,
Ella & Rusty (who likes the Tempurpedic)
