Hi all, we are back. Had to get a new password, for some reason mine wouldn't work anymore.

I'm feeling a liitle better, going to Docs tomorrow morning. I think I have Epstein Barr back along with no pain meds. My insurance seems to think I don't need them. They are now refusing to pay for them. My Doc has to get exceptions for them. It's just hard doing things when you can't walk too much, ya now ?? Enough about me.

I called Rags Doc cause my friend who was trying to take are of him while I was down and out thought there was something wrong. Doc raised his insulin to 1.5 units b.I.d. and only two feedings a day if I want to get him regulated. No testing ( which I REALLY do not like ). Until Thursday then I'll do a 12 hour curve. He is STILL hungry all the time an it kills me not to feed him, but I do want to get him regulated now. His ears are having a break which he just loves. He doesn't run anymore when I call
him for dinner.

Other than his fur getting FULL on knots he seems to be doing all right. He just doesn't understand why he can' t eat when everyone else does.

Just wanted to touch base so you would know what is going on with my boy, sorry it took soooo long. I just was NOT feeling too good and couldn't even think about doing anything.

Will post again everyday again and I do apologise for not getting back sooner.

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. We were wondering what happened to you and Rags.

I don't want to belabor a point but... How will your vet know how often (or if) you're testing if you don't tell him? And, how will he know how often you feed Rags if you don't tell him?

My vet and I had a very polite discussion about home testing. She thought I tested too much. I informed her that we would have to agree to disagree. I know my cat's patterns when it comes to her BG numbers -- my vet doesn't. I test to keep my cat safe.

Rags is your cat. You are his caregiver. You are an intelligent woman who knows her cat and is living with Rags. Your vet doesn't know how miserable Rags is when he's fed only twice a day. Cats like their routines. If you used to feed Rags more often, that's what Rags expects. You want to keep Rags safe. Testing is the way to do that. I would applaud you if you tested as you saw the need and fed your kitty in a way that makes you both happy.

Just my 2 cents!

Sienna and Diana, Thank you for your two cents. I agree, I too am NOT happy about not feeding and testing my big boy !!!! It scares me especially when he is started on a higher dose. He REALLY does look BAD !!!! I feel so sorry for him when I see how hungry he is. He really misses his dry food to have all during the day and night when he wanted it. He never ate a lot of it. I think it was more like a crutch for him. Yes, I know dry food is BAD for him, I'm just telling you his desire !! Ha, ha !!!

Becki & Rags

Welcome back, Becki, and get well wishes for you.

The way I look at it, you are Rags' advocate and caregiver. You know what is best for him because you live with him and you see him. Your vet does not. Personally, I would never allow my vet to tell me I can't feed my cat more than twice a day.

Keep in mind that many of us have regulated cats....Gracie included. She gets 5 mini meals each cycle. It helps to keep from overloading her pancreas. If you feed a large meal at one time, it makes the pancreas and the other digestive organs work harder. Basic physiology.

Hi Becki,
I just have a couple of questions about your new vet...

How much experience does she have with Lantus?

How many kitties that she has treated have gone into remission?
