So we are still way up in the clouds today and he's also developed a big sore on the side of his face (right near his jaw). It almost looks like it could have been a ruptured abscess, possibly from a bad tooth. I'm not able to see a hole which you can typically see if it was an abscess, but the skin looks somewhat "shredded" if you will. It could also be from excessive rubbing (because we know he likes to rub his face on things). Either way, we've started him on Clavamox and I've been doing warm compress and antibiotic ointment twice a day.

Appetite is still very good and just got a neg Ketone test. Just wondering when I'll start seeing some more yellows and blues again.

Paws crossed the AB works soon. Infection and pain can raise the numbers. Is a dental within the realm of possibilities for Rusty?

He doesn't seem painful in the mouth area, no drooling, and it certainly isn't affecting his eating. However, the dental has been on my radar for some time now and I think I'm going to make the appointment next week. I'll make sure to do daily ketone testing and monitoring appetite.

So sorry Rusty has one. I hope it heals quickly and his numbers come back down. A dental may be a really good idea.

Aww you are incredibly sweet! He will probably be going in sometime next week. Just waiting back from a quote from a second vet who might be able to do it a little cheaper.
