We haven't posted in at least a week..... life has just been too crazy busy at our house.

Today Radar is bright eyed and watching the birds with great interest. He's eating happily at meal times and eats his snacks without any encouragement and the LB is normal. He is also back to consistent lap sitting and purring. :cat:

We have gotten much better at pilling him as we recently moved to a daily dose of Cerenia, 1/2 an Ondansetron and a tiny crumb of Mirtazapine. If we omit any of the medications he doesn't feel good and doesn't want to eat. We are so glad to have found a combination of meds that helps him and keeps him purring and eating. We are devoted to helping him maintain a good quality of life and making sure he's not uncomfortable or in any pain. We simply can't afford the expensive specialty vets and the testing that the vet has suggested as the next steps to determine exactly what is causing Radar's problems with eating.

As for his numbers, it looks like he needs another increase.

I'm glad Radar is feeling good and eating for you. I'm glad you found a combination of meds to help him. It does look like he needs a dose increase. Sending prayers.

Similar to meds I am giving. I am about where you are with the vets.

How much Cerenia are you giving per day?

Radar is a big kitty at 14 pounds so he gets 16 mg a day. It's a pretty expensive medication, as I'm sure you know, so my vet sold me a box of 60 mg tablets which I'm cutting in fourths. That means Radar gets 15 mg a day instead of 16 mg but if he can tolerate a little bit less medication then I've saved a ton of money. The price went down from $6 a day to $2.50 a day. So far he seems to be doing well on the smaller dose. :woot:

It's nice to know that I'm not the only person with a kitty who needs an extra layer of meds to keep him purring. We should stay in touch and encourage each other. How's your Gizmo? What do the vets think is wrong and what are you doing to help him?

This would be $1/day

4ea 60mg $23.99

I know @MyTitan uses the 160mg and cuts it to dosage needed. That would be even less $$.

Gizmo is doing good today. Not sure what is gong on but suspect a stubbon kidney infection. He is getting 6mg Cerenia 1x/day (he is 11#'s) and 2mg (1/2 tab) of Ondan AM & PM currently. He had a great month or so and then went back down hill. It could be a panc flare but IDK.

My vet fired me last week. Referred me to an IM but no appt available till 05/29. I hope I can keep him going that long.

Got his phosphorus down to 4.1 and kidney labs are better than they have been in quite awhile.

Hey Jan! Nice to hear from you. :) I am so glad that you found a combo of meds that helps with his appetite. You are such a great FurMomma to Radar and it is so apparent of how much you love him. These damn drugs should not be so expensive. Don't get me started on that rant........

:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: Hugs for you and gentle scritches for Gizmo. It's so hard to know there's "something" wrong but not have anything but guesses about what to do to help. Hang in there. Thanks for the link to a pet pharmacy that has more reasonable prices. I'll be getting right on that. :)

They are very easy to work with. You go to check out and they ask if you have an rx, refill or contact your vet for authorization - select contact vet and it gives you fields for name of vet and contact info and then you check out and enter payment info. They don't charge your card until they have authorization to fill from your vet. Their prices are the best I have found. Delivery is less than a week once authorized. Shipping charges are ~$5. I order 2 boxes minium at a time.
