Day two of no PM shot. She's holding steady for now (probably since her dose is so low), but I'm getting really nervous.

After the vomiting last night, she did eat breakfast, though not much. I contacted the vet and he gave us some Cerenia. She ate some YA after that (about noon) but nothing else so far.

I tried, literally, 7 different wet foods, and she sniffed, and then tried to bury them all. I have YA out in case she decides to go for the kibble instead. I dont think she will get enough water with just the kibble, which is going to cause more kidney problems.

Does anyone have thoughts on how long I can do this dance with just one shot of insulin a day? I'm so scared her numbers are going to skyrocket and then we'll have a double-whammy on our hands. :( Should I press the vet for an appetite stimulant? I asked him earlier, but he wanted to do 'one thing at a time,' hence just the Cerenia.

Thank you!

If cerenia doesn’t get her eating I would ask for ondansetron (zofran). For many cats it works better for nausea than cerenia. It did for Max. Some cats need both as they work in different ways. If the nausea meds dint work then I would try an appetite stimulant. I like cyproheptadine, a human antihistamine that works as an appetite stimulant for cats. It was often used before mirtazapine. Mirt made one of my cats so hyper and talkative that I always try cyproheptadine first.
For now you want her eating and if she stats in the 100’s on once a day until she eats that’s what I would do. If the bg starts to go up you can always give insulin at night too. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I'm so leery of only doing a single shot, but since she wont eat, I'm kind of stuck. Let's just hope her BG numbers stay relatively flat...one less thing to stress about! (I hope I didn't just jinx myself! ;)) Thanks again!! :)

You’re welcome. Once a day is not ideal but for now it’s keeping her flat and safe. I hope she starts to feel better soon.
