Liz has a nice number this morning. I am thinking of changing her SS so the colors relate to AlphaTrak numbers. Is there someone on the forum who helps with that? It would be nice to see the true green. :D

The automatic feeder arrived yesterday, but when I went to set it up I realized I was lacking 4 D batteries, so will get that going today and see how it works tonight. :cat:

That's the same feeder most of us use. Under the tray is a small place you can put a tiny gel pack if you want.

Beautiful numbers for Liz today. :D

yup that's the one! it is great, I actually bought a 2nd one, and i have one programmed for daytime and one for nightime feeds. Of course, If i wanted to do more than 4 feeds during a time period, i could deploy both. I think you'll like it! they've also dropped the price since the first one I bought, just 2 months ago!

Looking great, Vicki. That's the same feeder we used. The one habit that you want to get into is to seat the feeding tray in the base and then to use the button that rotates it one turn. That will let you know that it is really fully seated and will open correctly. We always set it in with 2 empty trays, then rotated it forward into the right position. The one complaint you'll see online is that it didn't open all the way, but if you have it fully seated in the base it will do fine.

Elizabeth is settling in very nicely - some of us have been talking about how well she's doing. :D:D:D:D:D:D

Hello again Vicki - Julie, Marje, Amy and I think it's time for Elizabeth to try an OTJ trial. :D:D:D She's looking really good and from what we can tell on the AlphaTrak, sticking to normal numbers. And you've got the autofeeder now so the timing is perfect. And paws crossed she'll be ready for you to go on vacation.:)

Below are the OTJ Trial instructions. They are written for the human meters, but you can think of green as being roughly somewhere around 120.

Start the trial on the next green pre shot.

If he/she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If he/she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If his/her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. He/she may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we just give him/her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck with the trial!!!

Once he/she is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him/her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he/she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his/her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

Wow! I am speechless! And excited, and nervous. Okay - I will give it a go. I was hoping to get the automatic feeder set up for tonight, but it's so late now it will probably have to wait until tomorrow. I am not very good with contraptions, so it takes me a long time to set anything up. So tomorrow, if her BG is 120 or so, I don't give the shot and start the OTJ trial? :D:D:D:cat::cat::cat: And if it's higher, I wait to start the OTJ trial until she's at 120 during a pre-shot time?

i'd start if she's under about 160. Marje did a comparison (think I mentioned that) with the AT2 - it's on one of Gracie's ss tabs, and it looks like 160 or so is about an equivalent of 120 on a human meter.

I pretty much had to read the directions on setting the times every single time I reset the feeder. It's not very intuitive - at least not to me.

If you are going to wait for a green preshot to start, that'd be about 135 on the AT2 (which is about 100 on human meter so the "top" of the green numbers)

If you're just going to start at the next "normal" number, then it's below 160 (which is about 120 human)
