Hi Jennifer and welcome. You will get plenty of help here and before long will likely be helping others. It will take a little time to figure out when the onset for lantus is for your cat is.

You are seeing a food spike. That is a small one. Plus the shot hasn't kicked in yet. For my Max that usually is at +2.5.

Ok...I know it's only been an hour but I am mentally exhausted and have to find a soft pillow! :) I wanted to test before bed. Gosh guys you all are about amazing!!! I can rest now knowing we made it through day one!!!

It's normal - don't worry about the +1 being higher. Eating food (carbs) will often raise a cat's blood sugar a little bit.

It'll wear off in a bit, or he might even go higher. At this point, in this range of blood sugar, it doesn't matter.

You've done great for the first day! I want to give you one more link, which will help you find the others and the information you've read: "Where Can I Find?" You may want to bookmark it so you can find it again later. There is a section in there for cats that are starting out, in the second half of the first post, and it includes probably all of the links you've been given above. If not, still ones that will be helpful.

Congrats on day one down. You must be mentally exhausted. Rest up. All will be fine.

Ok...something on my mind...he isn't gonna crash while I'm sleeping...is he? The woman brain...thinks of these events as soon as head hits pillow!

It helps if you continually edit your subject line throughout the day - that way once you've gotten your questions answered you can remove the ? so people don't keep looking long after the issue is over.

Sleep well! You've done great today.

I just want to say hello and welcome. It looks like you are doing great with Paula's help.

It seems much harder at the beginning than it will later. Testing did not seem to be a problem and that is the key to all of this, so bravo! If you happen to wake up during the night and you are worried or want to know where he is, you can always do a test. As time passes and you do more testing, you will get a sense of when it is important to test Lemmiwinks. Just be sure he gets a treat every time. I think most people who come here already love their kitties dearly. They find, though, that going through this process makes an even more special bond.

Looking forward to seeing how Lemmiwinks is doing tomorrow.

Hope you are having a good sleep!

I'm going to send you a private message about your spreadsheet. Check your inbox when you get up. Look in the upper right corner do this page and you'll see "inbox" with a number on it.
