I'm a little earlier than we usually do shot time... but it doesn't matter today =) I love it! Just like Michelle, my heart pounds while I wait for that meter to beep and flash the number at me.

Tugger seemed a bit confused last night when I tested/fed... "um, mom... you forgot something!" He laid on the floor in the kitchen for a while, as if he was waiting for me to realize. But then we went to bed and he came with us without complaint ;)

D if you haven't seen it yet, could you please check my post from last night and give me your thoughts? We're going to pick the drooler up this afternoon and I'd like to take any opinions you or anyone else has regarding possible impact into consideration as we work this all out.

Busy day ahead! First I'm taking a friend's daughter to school (the car accident friend) then we'll head down to pick up hubby's new girl. And hubby's she is... he found her, he called, he is the one who told me about her. He also knew that when he told me the details, I'd have to go get her (he'll never admit that but I know it to be true) so this is going to be his girl (if she stays.) I'll have to guide him in training a bit, but otherwise this is pretty much on him ;-) If he thinks he can get me all stirred up and have me take over he's wrong. I think she's a bit nervous about women, or at least the two women we talked with yesterday. I hope we can fix her. Boo is a different dog now than he was when we first brought him home, so I think we can help this girl. If she can live with cats. I guess we'll know more once we get her here. Wish us luck!

Re: 4/27 Tugger AMBG 86

Great number Tugger and good luck with this incoming great dane I think its going to be hit or miss with whether it bothers Tugger or not you know your home and its stress levels and how the cats are with the dogs. After reading your post its wonderful you are rescuing her the only concern to me is the snapping if that is a habit that can be broken or not she is pretty old and it may be pretty set and like you said right now you have no idea how she is with cats so I guess you will just have to wait and see. After being a tech for as long as I have I know some bad behavior can change and others can not. Good luck with this.

Re: 4/27 Tugger AMBG 86

I'm with you, get the dog. When I think of Tugger, I think of a very strong spirit and body. I believe he will know that you are helping another fellow fury creature and roll with it. The first step is to get that dog to safety (you). Moving in a positive direction will open the next positive for her, whether it be your home or another. We never know what doors will be opened for her but as long as you/we/I move in a positive direction something good is sure to happen. You have been called to save this dog. We should all get together and send Tugger extra calming vines.

P.S. AMBG 86

Re: 4/27 Tugger AMBG 86

We're thinking we may have unwittingly done the introduction wrong. Keep in mind, this is just suspicion and theory. We brought Boomer out of the van on leash, while she was on leash on the deck. When she saw him getting excited, she started snapping and growling and pulling towards him. Now, I've never been party to breeding so I don't know how that is done (are they kept on lead like horses and guided or just let loose together to do the deed in their own time?), but we're thinking maybe Miss Spaz is not a virgin. (Is that something a vet can tell even if she hasn't had puppies? Do dogs have hymens?) I'm wondering if they maybe attempted to breed her and it didn't take... might explain her reaction to the excited large male? She didn't appear to be in heat but I'm not very experienced with dogs (as compared to my experience with cats), female dogs especially so she might be and I just didn't recognize it. Hubby did say that he thought her nipples are a little too long for a girl who has never been bred or had pups, but like I said, not too much doggie experience here.

Once she realized Boomer had no intention of mounting her or being a meanie-head, she chilled out and before we left her tail had come out from under her belly and was waving just as much as Boomer's.

I'm going to do some research and go to the GD forum I used to visit when Boo was still in training, they helped me a lot in those days. Looks like it's time to go visit again! This girl will be needing some rehab for sure. More than Boo did I think. *crossing fingers*

Re: 4/27 Tugger AMBG 86

Beautiful AMBG for Tugger this morning!!
Way to GoTugger!!!!!! :RAHCAT :RAHCAT :RAHCAT

Just got a chance to see yesterday's condo about the new puparoni....what a beautiful dog, Marvie! I can see why you would want her. I hope the introduction to the new drooler goes well. One thing about stress and Tugger....if his numbers do increase, you will at least know why. If numbers go up, don't worry, just give it some time and see what happens.

Re: 4/27 Tugger AMBG 86

Looks like a great start for Tugger today!

Glad to hear things have settled a bit with the new drooler. I hope she adapts and settles well into your home! :-D

Re: 4/27 Tugger AMBG 86

Hi Marvie and Tugger!!!! Yay for the great ambg!!! I freak when I am testing just praying for a good number. I have had to almost lock the testing cabinet to refrain myself from testing. I told myself if his am/pm #'s are good I am going to leave him alone. Scrabble has been kind of looking at me after he gets his food too like ok that is it? Hahahah! I love not having to give him shots!!! Hope you have a wonderful day. Good luck with the drooler, I think you are doing the right thing and what a great person you are to want to help the dog!!!

Re: 4/27 Tugger AMBG 86

We'll be heading out soon to go get the little miss. I just can't call her "Spaz" so till she gets a real name she'll be little girl or some variation of that. I've got a bed for her in the living room, hubby cleaned out the dog's room so there's space for the crate, I bought thrift shop blankets to put in the crate, got her some new toys so she'll have something of her own, and a new collar because I didn't like the one they had on her. They said they will send her food dishes so we'll see what they send. I'm also going to find out what they feed *shudder to think* so I can pick up a small bag of it to use in the transitional period. I will eventually get her changed over to Boomer's food though.

I did get to speak with the local coordinator for the GD rescue and she said not to feed little girl right away, wait till everything settles down so we minimize chances of bloat, along with a few other tips for the introductions once we get her here to the house. I told her our only real dealbreaker with this girl is something vicious towards the cats, anything else I can work on and fix but I will not take chances with the kitties. They were here first. It was the same with Boomer, if he hadn't blended in so well with the cats he wouldn't have been able to stay. He was no issue at all though. Anyway, they are on alert so if anything comes up we can get help or get her moved asap.

Does anyone know what size diapers a Great Dane would wear? Just in case she's in heat... I didn't think to ask the rescue lady when I had her on the phone. ohmygod_smile I'm thinking we'll need something like Depends...

The boy will be home any minute so I better get off here and go get ready to leave! We should be home by 6pm (EST) so I'll post Tugger's numbers then.

Thinking I will test him before she comes in, then maybe again after? Just to see.

Re: 4/27 Tugger AMBG 86

I think that is a great idea! Because I do wonder how it will affect his BG, I am sure he will be fine!! But I do think a spot check here or there is good to make sure kitty is on track & with the environment changing too.

Re: 4/27 Tugger AMBG 86

Hi Marvie, Just wanted to wish you all the luck in the world with the new drooler. I'm sure Tugger will be fine. He knows how much you care about animals. You are a wonderful person to be engaged in so many rescues. Keep us posted! Oh, and congrats to Tugger on his great AM number. Stu is looking forward to seeing him at the party tomorrow night.

Ella & Stu

I forgot to get his number before we brought Little Girl in but 91 is not bad! She'd been in about 30 minutes at test time.

So far all has gone well with the intros. The crate makes her cry and stresses her out so we've got her on leash and with one of us at all times for now. Not sure how the sleeping arrangements will work out tonight but I suspect she and hubby will be sleeping in the office if she won't stay in the crate without crying. He can't stand to listen to her.

She's very curious about the cats, whines when she sees them walking around. She's sniffed a few of them, Tugger whapped her already and Echo hissed at her but everyone else either hid from her or in Bella's case wanted to make friends lol. Bella has no fear, she's chilling in the recliner waiting for someone to come cuddle with her.

I'll have pictures up later tonight or tomorrow and I got a few minutes of video in the back yard.

I'll say I am cautiously optimistic right now =)

So great Marvie. Wow & fast...wasn't this just a notion yesterday?...and he's already at Casa Marvie (casa Tugger?) today.
I wouldn't worry too much ...there has not been a single thing thrown at Tugger that he hasn't overcome.
He's doing great.
Can't wait to hear all about her and how things are settling.

HAPPY DAY 2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
