Can you believe these numbers?? I'm really shocked. Trix has not had insulin for 5.5 days, and the last shot she did have was a greatly reduced BCS. From Tricia in yesterday's condo:
I really am fascinated by the great BG numbers she's had through all this, with no jus! I hope that continues - one less "mean" thing you have to do to her!

Anyone have any thoughts or seen anything like this before?

As many of you saw, Trix did have a round of very stinky diarrhea that resulted in her needing a little tushy wash...poor girl. But, ever since then, she has felt much better. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some more, but I'm hoping this was primarily a one shot deal, and maybe it is marking the beginning of the end of this ordeal.

Yesterday, we gave her the 1ml (2mg) ondansetron just once (in the morning) and she was fine all day and night. But, just to be sure she stays that way, we did give her a smaller dose of .5ml (1mg) this morning, 21 hours after her last shot. Last night we also gave her a reduced dose of bupe (partially on purpose [I had taken some out of the pre-filled syringe] and partially unintentionally [she moved her head!]) and again, she seemed fine. That was 11 hours ago now. I'm still trying to decide if we want to attempt to skip bupe this morning....I know it is excellent for the pain, and I know she's excellent of hiding pain so I don't know for sure if she has any at this point or not, but at the same time, I think it makes her feel crummy.

I do have a call in to our vetty, just to discuss Trix's progress and what our next steps will be and what to watch for with regards to tapering down the meds.

She did eat a very nice Fancy Feast breakfast. I will eventually migrate her back to a diet that is better for her kidneys, but for now, I don't want to do anything to upset the delicate balance we have.

I was able to get her BP meds in this morning very similarly to how I did it last night. First, I offered the two pill pocketed pills and 3 kibbles on a spoon. No go. Then I took one of the pill pockets and tried to force it into the corner of her mouth: got it in; she flicked it out. But, interestingly, after she flicked it, she started sniffing excitedly all over for it. So like last night, I took the two mushy PPs and squished them together, then re-offered her the spoon with the PP and 3 kibbles, and she ate 'em all. I guess she has to re-learn the connection between the smell of the PP and liking the flavor...once she actually got the TASTE of the PP in her mouth, she wanted it.

I'm off today, and my house is a disaster...I haven't done a thing since all this started. So chores, errands, and hanging out kitties but not hovering over Trix are on my docket for the day.

Hi Amy,
It is so good to read that Trixie is doing so much better. Kudos to you. You are clearly doing the right things (and there sure are a lot of them!).

I'm surprised that you don't want any more snow in your neck of the woods :lol: It keeps you on your toes, you know :lol: :lol:

I did give her a reduced dose of bupe again (.15mls instead of .20mls), just to be sure she's not in any pain. I soooooooo wish she could talk.....

@Ella....I've got 5 cats to keep me on my toes......I definitely do NOT need snow on top of that :lol: !!! I am sure I would just be shaking uncontrollably if I woke up to snow now. Heck, I might start shaking uncontrollably if it snows next February, when one would expect to see snow!

Wow, a nice progress report on our sweet Trixie. Yay on eating a nice Fancy Feast breffifs. That's great the pill pockets and treats are working getting her b/p pills into her. You really have a good handle on all her issues, and the bupe, too. That is too bad we can't tell the pain issue with them. They hide their pain so well.
I'm sure glad there was no s... there for you guys! :lol: Wish I could send some of our sunshine over your way. Enjoy your day off and getting caught up on chores.
Lots of scritches for Trixie and the vines and prayers continue.

Yay for feeling better! Do you think all this trauma she's been through has shocked her pancreas into working again? I really will be interested to hear what your vet thinks about it. It's just so nice! :mrgreen:

I wish the pill pocket trick would work with my girls. Minka is pretty used to being pilled now, so I can usually get it down her throat in one shove, but Sasha has an iron clad lock on her jaws and she is a master squirmer. Neither will touch a pill pocket, no matter what I roll it in. I try every trick I see someone mention, but no joy. The one good thing is that Harvey loves pill pockets and I can get pretty much any med down him if it's in one. Cinco has had most of his meds in liquid form, so he's accustomed to having them squirted down his throat (although he doesn't like it!). I can't remember what it was like to not have a cat on meds!

I hope Trixie continues to improve and you can eliminate the Bupe soon. Have fun catching up on your errands and chores.
 
I forgot to mention Trix's BGs to my vetty today...we were spending so much time talking about the med plan that it slipped my mind. I have to admit, these numbers kinda freak me out, as weird as that sounds. It is very helpful that I don't have to worry about the diabetic component so much right now, but why all of a sudden??? She did have glucose in her urine at one of her more recent tests maybe a month ago (that was when I was messing around with diet changes and she wasn't as well-regulated), so she was diabetic back then. And, according to both x-rays and ultrasound that her pancreas is abnormal. So, IF she were heading for remission, I would hazard a guess it would be a short one. But who knows....this is just all so weird to me. I want my old version of "normal" back....even though that wasn't terribly normal either, at least I was used to it.

Trix is still feeling OK tonight, although I know she is not completely herself. She is still spending the majority of her time upstairs....I don't know if that's because she doesn't feel great, or it feels secure to her 'cause DH and I are constantly approaching her with various meds :sad: ....In fact, we are getting close to BP meds time.

Vetty said to continue as we are for at least another day, because we want to be sure she is feeling good for a solid 48 hours before we try to eliminate meds...if we stop too soon and the nausea comes back, it would be a set back to get her back to where she is now.

I'm starting to get anxious about the fact that I have to go to work tomorrow and I can't come home to check on her because I'm working the store by myself. However, DH will come home. Honestly, it'll probably be good for both her and I that I can't come home and hover!

Imagine that picture with 2 pill pocketed pills and 3 kibbles and you've got a scene out of my life. BP pills IN! A little easier this time...it took a few sniffs, but she did take them from the spoon without me having to push them in her mouth first. Phew...we're good for another 12 hours!
 
That's how we used to feel when we first started testing - Phew, good for another 12 hours. We were so incompetent. :lol: :lol: I'm sooooo glad the Trixster is feeling better! :-D :-D :-D
