4/27, Susie, 253 AMPS

Nice numbers yesterday. I hope Susie heads back down today.
Thank you, Carla. I believe we might see a big bounce. Wish I could figure out how to lower her AMPS. I left 1/2 can of food in the auto feeder last night to open at +6. She ate it but I don't know what time. Maybe too close to AMPS.

I hope Susie hits the blues today. I just looked at your SS. Your color coding for 2.5 is blue and should be yellow.

You are doing such a wonderful job with managing Susie on this new dose. Well done. I see you won't be home tomorrow for a while. Will you leave a bunch of food down?

I fixed the color coding on my spreadsheet. Also, my morning away is on Thursday - not tomorrow - and I will make sure to leave her food. I keep waiting for a big bounce from her. I'm sure it is coming. Wish there was a way to stop them. Looks like I'll be able to get some sleep tonight. Good to hear from you Suzanne. You and Darcy are in my prayers.

I hope Susie slides back down safely today. Have a good day Summer :bighug::bighug:
Thanks, Diane. Susie is a struggle. I keep, slowly, increasing her doses and she will have one good day and then go right back up. I need some consistency. Maybe I need some food advice. Strictly FF pate but maybe my timing is wrong. I give 1 can (3 oz) at AMPS and 1 full can at PMPS. 1/2 can at +6 during the day and then another 1/2 can around +2 after PMPS. I'm just not sure what to do at this point. I will stay with SLGS because she doesn't reflect increases for two to three days after I start them. I am at a loss. Is it the food? Is it my timing with the food?

Can anyone explain why Susie goes lower at night? Her PMPS are almost always lower than the AMPS. I'm actually not even expecting a response to this post but just thought I would ask.

Well, I have always read that MANY cats tend to have lower BG readings at night. I was never given an explanation as to why -- maybe some circadian rhythm thing? maybe some hormonal release thing that I am not privvy to :-) I just can't tell you how many times I've seen posts saying that cats tend to run lower at night. Now, I never found this to be true with my cat. He was always higher at night, until recently, when he decided that all bets are off and he wasn't playing by anybody's rules anymore! He does what he wants.

Wish Susie would be higher at night. Thanks for your response, Suzanne.

By the way, I hope Darcy did well at the vet today and is happy to be at home and IS eating.

Hey Summer, not sure what feeder you have but the one I have has 6 slots so I set one last opening at AMPS -2 hours but don't put any food in there. So in your situation, the food would be available at +6 for 4 hours and then gets whisked away.

I hope she stays nice and blue for you this evening!

I don’t have an auto feeder but this sounds very confusing! If they don’t eat it within a certain period of time then it is closed up (the auto feeder?)

Yes.

In my case, it only rotates twice a day. Once at 630am (2 hrs before AMPS) it goes to an empty slot. After testing I put his food in that empty slot. Then again at 630p it rotates to another empty slot, and I put his food in there after testing.

Mr Kitty tends to eat most of his food upfront, which so far hasn't been an issue. But it means that if he does go low and I'm not around, he may not have enough food to bring him up (or he might not be hungry). If I think that will be a problem, I'll put a small amount in at AMPS, set it to remove the food (go to empty slot) at +2 or so, give it back at +3/4, or whatever I need to do to feed the curve. It sounds much worse than it is! Takes 30 seconds to do.

Interestingly, since he's been in better numbers he actually does a much better job feeding the curve on his own, so to speak. The few times he's gone low (sub 70) he's eaten a bunch of LC on his own

There's a post buried in the forum pretty sure, hold on...

Edit: the search is horrendously slow for me. If I remember correctly nobody knows for sure, but believe it has something to do with the fact that they're nocturnal and whatever biophysical processes are occuring tend to keep it lower. Like Suzanne said, many cats go lower at night.

Wow you are a super-user of the feeder! I only really use the feeder at night, and with 2 cats I really have no idea which of them has eaten it. I've considered getting a second feeder but still no guarantee that will work. And I'm not brave enough yet to rely on it to leave her during the day. You inspire me :)

So you have a feeder that will close up after a certain amount of time? Mine doesn't do that. It just stays open. May I ask the name of it? Is it electric?

Yep, electric. It's the Petsafe which I read about here. Got it on Amazon.

It doesn't just close on its own, you have to set an extra opening time. It allows you to set multiple opening times, and it rotates every time it opens. You just don't put any food in it for the last opening time. So for example - it has 5 slots. I set up 3 snacks overnight with 4 alarms - 130, 3, 4.30 and 6am. There is no food in the slot for 6am but it rotates and cuts off whatever food is not eaten at 430. Sometimes I wake up and they haven't eaten one of the snacks - it rotated and they missed it. It's easier than it sounds.

It sounds perfect but I can't use an electric feeder. I have a wacky electrical switch in the bathroom where I keep the feeder (away from the droolers). It only works when I turn on the light switch. Old house. Built in 1958. Almost as old as me and all of me doesn't work so I forgive it. It is an inconvenience.

Sorry, lost in translation. It takes batteries!
