Want my predictions of what he is going to do today?
Bet he stays fairly flat today with a dip into the yellows that he surfs flat until tonight's pmps...then tomorrow he is gonna go right back to lagoon.
But then again this is Lucian we are talking about and he is predictably unpredictable. Although something came up in Scratchie's condo yesterday that might be something to try with him, but I definitely can't help you with because I have never used a bolus insulin with a basal insulin. But maybe we want to ask Jill for her thoughts on you using a little R on him to take the edge off those sky-high bounces so the Lantus can get a bite on the rest of his numbers. Whatcha think? Want send her or have me send her a PM to stop by his condo and give us her thoughts?
I really hadn't considered it until now since it is something that I have no real hands on experience with. But the concept as it was explained in Scratchie's condo would I think make sense in Lucian's case. But because of my lack of experience with it I would like to have someone that does weigh in, and then have someone with experience in its use doing the guiding. Heck if nothing else it would be another good discussion to learn from.

I've thought of that too, my ex was diabetic and took 2 insulins, 1 to drop it if it was over a certain number and the other to keep it down. If his numbers weren't too high he just took the one that reduced a little and held it. He took N and another one, Novalog maybe, my memory is shot.
My concern with that, is the ability to microdose it, you know how bad my hands are to start with, beside not being able to afford it.
I'll just have to continue to try to bring is numbers down to acceptable with Lantus. Not like I have a choice in it.

I was thinking about that after I posted to you this morning and if you don't mind I would like to brainstorm something with Jill & Alex and Cjleo about possibly instead of using R using N which is still a fairly harsh insulin when used by itself doesn't offer much control but is still gentler than R as the bolus insulin. If I'm understanding the concept correctly and thus why I would like to bounce it off a couple of other more experienced users, I think we could still get the desired effect out of it for knocking off those edges on his bounces but with a slightly higher dose to start that would be easier for you to measure. Like I'm thinking maybe like a .5u and only when he is up in the pinks and higher.
It might be a tool to get him to hold those lower healing numbers and get him off the roller coaster ride....If Jill thinks it might work to do what we want it to do then we will figure out a way to get you a vial...I might even be able to get my vet to get me a vial and let me work it off at the clinic doing kennel work for her over a couple weekends..I don't think it is even as expensive as NPH R if I remember right I think I saw it either on Dr. Fosters or at Walmart for about $25 to $50 a vial.

You know I don't know...gonna have to do some research on that one. But it does make me wonder..because I think my mom was on an insulin that was a combined shot where the bolus and the basal was combined, but I don't remember the name of it, or if it would be possible to just combine any bolus with any basal insulin...I'll have to find out and get back to you on that..Might be a good question to throw into the brainstorming mix.

When he comes down he comes down beautifully but man when he wants to dive or bounce he does it with enthusiasm. :shock: Now to figure out a way to make him behave himself long enough for his liver to take a remedial<sp?> course in normal numbers and not be such a drama queen. ohmygod_smile :lol:
