Just wondering if it's normal for a cat to eat 7 cans of food a day? I notice I have been going thru a case of food pretty quick! Shadow always comes and finds me when he's hungry and I usually give him half a can or a full can. Sometimes right after he finishes one can he comes and bugs me for more. He is still skinny and hasn't put on much weight. What should I do?

Hi Brad,

What size of can/type of food is Shadow getting? Also, have you got a current weight for him? With high numbers he is going to be pretty hungry all the time and without enough insulin he can't process the food properly. I can tell if my Neko is going to have an ugly high number by how much she is asking for food before meals. I've read some posts from people talking about much higher food requirements when the cats are unregulated.

Unregulated cat needs a lot of food. I dont have an advice for you. I'll bump you for some eyes!

It's something like this, but I'm not that good with words.. Insulin is needed to get the food into the cells to be used for energy. When there is not enough insulin, the cells can't get the food, and even though the cat eats and eats, he feels hungry and cats that don't get insulin are actually starving.
Once, you get his numbers better under control, then he should start to slowly put back on that weight.

He is just getting the small cans. I'm not sure how many ounces they are, maybe 3? Hopefully I can get Shadow regulated, it looks like we're headed in the right direction.
