First time at a 42 in the AM? I am stalling now and will test in a min. then maybe give a Teaspoon of sauce HC and wait to test again. It has been a while and I am not up to date on my SS.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

If it is 12 hours since Oliver received insulin there might not be a problem. But you are wise to be cautious.
How does Oliver seem?

Do you have any test results from last night?
Is Oliver prone to dropping late into the cycle?

(Going to have a look at his SS now)

Hi Kelly,

Is Oliver showing any hypo symptoms?

The symptoms to be concerned about include but are not limited to:
staggering, uncoordinated movements, 'drunken' walk, wobbling, balance problems
ataxia - usually lack of muscular coordination, but maybe changes in head and neck movements
disorientation (yowling, walking in circles, etc.)
twitching
stupor
convulsions or seizures
coma

Did you give any insulin this morning? I see a dose of 2.25 in your SS.

Yes Its been 12 hours, and I do have Karo and etc. I gave him a Teaspoon of HC sauce and its now going up to 58. Will keep checking and wait till its up a bit more to shoot. ???? What is a safe # at this point?

I did also get the SS updated and I have not had to many night test as I have not really needed to.
Oliver is most likely not going to go into remission so I just keep him happy and out from hiding behind the toilet.
He is not really on a road to regulation IMO but maybe I am wrong? He is 15 almost and just seems worn out and lazy most days.
He is always laying at the water hole, and wanting to be soothed with LC snacks chicken or Fish and shrimp Can. So I give it to him a few times during the day.
He has lost a few lbs since Dec. and is super weak and skinny. Still jumps around but IDK????

No I have not gave insulin. Just a small sauce HC and its at 58 now.
He actually seems fine, hes up and waiting for me to feed him. :)
Poor guy.

You want him to be going up without the influence of food before you shoot anything. The 58 is food influenced right now. Get another test in 15-20 minutes to see where he's headed.

When you do shoot, you want to make sure to reduce his dose by .25 down to 2 units. I would not give 2.25u. He's earned his reduction.

Yes for sure to the 2.0 units , I am already and hour and 1/2 past AMPS.
I will check and post ASAP. In about 15.

Kelly, I saw in your SS notes that Oliver has had UTI's? Is it possible that he has one now?
Or does he have any other health issues that you know of (any kidney or thyroid problems?)

(Oh, and don't give up on getting Oliver regulated. That boy may just surprise you one day...)

Eliz

He use to have UTI's when he was younger. I switched him to Vet RX food Dry. He never has had one again. Then with he RX of diabetes, he has been taken off of it and no signs of UTI since. No other health issues that I know of. He is a very healthy guy until this. Still doing well this AM just hungry.
Its at a 50 so I gave a little more HC gravy. Waiting again now.

That's ok. Have you thought about maybe skipping this morning's shot? You're a couple hours offoe, which means you'll be several hours late tonight as well. If you skip, expect higher numbers for a bit.

See what he's at in 30. You're doing great, Kelly!

30 min later 61 now..... ugh this is getting to over 2 hours AMPS now? Its going to after 9 PM for PMPS.
Will check again in 15 ish.

He is at 102 now at 9:35 almost 3 hours after normal pre shot.
I think I will just feed and skip then as he is going up I will wait to see what you guys say then for about 10 min.
As I dont want a 10 PM PS. So if I skip I can go back to the 6:30 AM PM PS time. Right?

Absolutely. If you skip, you can set your shot time whenever you are comfortable.

Don't be surprised to see higher numbers tonight.

Great job, Kelly!

Right. If you skip, you can shoot his next dose at your preferred time, even if that's at +20 or so. You could even shoot a little earlier than your preferred time if you want and then work the insulin shots back 15 minutes at a time.

If you decide to skip, I wouldn't give him any more HC food or sauce unless he goes below 50, just test regularly if he is goes back to between 50 and 100.

Ok Will do guys thanks so much for your help this AM going to feed go out do much needed yard work and come in and hang with my animals that think they are all dying off of hunger. :)
Happy Saturday.
:-D

Kelly--

Suzanne provided some great input. I really want to encourage you to get PM tests. It looks to me like Oliver may like to drop during the PM cycle. Having gotten a test or two last night may have given you some indication that Oliver's numbers were dropping this morning.

Good luck with the dose reduction.
