Good morning! After Gryphen woke me up this morning at about 4 by vomiting bile all over my bed, I decided full bloodwork is definitely in order today.

Hopefully she was just hungry, but for some reason she didnt eat the YA I leave out for just that reason. :( Her AMPS was normal (for her) @ 152.

In any case, is there anything I should specifically have them test for that might not be handled with standard bloodwork? I don't want to overlook something...and I'll have to specifically ask for it or I'll just get the 'normal'.

Thank you!

I can't recommend but maybe someone else will have a recommendation. Hope Gryphen feels better. You are wise to have bloodwork done. Her numbers look pretty stable.

Hi Bobbi! Sorry about the incident last night...

I'm not sure on the blood work - but I will say I stopped by your condo thinking you were asking about glucose testing. Do you know how to edit your title? If you edit your title and change it to 04/26 Gryphen - Need Recommendations for Blood Work Testing (or something like that), it may get more eyes.

I typically get a full senior panel - make sure it includes thyroid tests. In my part of the world they call it a geri panel. If it's been a while, maybe a urinalysis too. ETA: I noticed the last labs didn't have a urine specific gravity, so yes on the urinalysis if they can.

Thanks much! Senior panel was what I was going to have for sure. I'll have them do thyroid again, also. Have been waiting for her to come down and pee...I have my ladle ready!! She is 10. :)

For future reference, the first thing in the morning pee is a better one for testing urine specific gravity. Once she's started drinking during the day it would be more dilute.

Good to know! I need to update my lab sheet, not sure why its missing. Last labs had USG at 1.029.

Eveything came back good! She also had a BG of 143 (which is amazing for her since she stresses so much). No glucose in the urine, either. (Alphy had no sugar in her urine, either...I took in a sample for each. Yay!!) The only out of range number she had was her BUN, which was a tad high. Normal creatine and phosphorus. I know high BUN can be because of a higher protein diet, which she would have since I switched her to wet. The vet recommended Kidney Support Gold.

We did allergy testing for the vomiting; should have results soon.

I've seen Kidney Support Gold mentioned here before, can anyone weigh in on it? Do you all think its ok to give her with just a high BUN? Thank you!

I've seen several people try Kidney Support Gold - with no impact. Save your money. The nice thing about sending blood work out, especially if the Idexx, is that you can get an SDMA test done, a better indicator that BUN, along with USG, for kidney issues.

What sort of allergy test was done? Again, have yet to see a test that really works for that.

They did SDMA also (idexx), a few points high. I questioned the allergy testing with false positives, etc. Sadly, I can't remember the name right now.

Do you have a urine specific gravity too? When you do find the allergy test, let me know. If there is one that works, I'd love to know it.

I will grab the USG when I get home. I think it was around 1.025...but that was urine from the afternoon. (I'm at an appointment...LOL)

I will definitely keep you posted on the allergy test!

Yep, USG was 1.026. In looking at the sheet, it looks like the following are high:

SDMA @ 23
BUN @ 43
TP @ 9.1
GLOB @ 5.4
RDW @ 29.7

We didn't discuss some of those at the visit. He said the urinalysis being normal ruled out quite a few other things.

I forgot to mention she does have some inflammation on one of her back teeth. I know that can raise BG, so I scheduled her for a dental. He did say it's not horrible though, just a bit red.

I updated the lab sheet. Any thoughts? Thanks SO MUCH!
