Good morning sugar cats and their staff ;)

It`s a beautiful morning here, a bit chilly, but the sun is shining, the sky is blue -- and so is Lulu. I am thrilled to have found this forum, you have helped me bring Lulu into blues and greens. Here`s hoping the trend continues. Without your help, I would have a very sick kitty, and some pretty high vet bills. Thank you again.

Someone in this house in throwing up quite a bit -- found two large piles last night and a smaller one this morning. I don't think it's Lulu -- might be Otis gobbling his food too fast. I'll watch closely after the next feeding to see who it is.

Enjoy this day, everyone!:bighug:

Lulu is looking great, thanks to your wonderful care. :) She's starting to slide into normal number range on this dose. :D

Hairball season is in full force here too - today might be Furminator day.

Thanks, Wendy, that means a lot. Couldn't have done it without your help :)
I do have a question -- my friend's vet (who is my vet as well) recommended kaopectate to treat her non-diabetic cat's diarrhea, she said 1/8 ml per pound. I've tried FortiFlora, I've tried pumpkin, and poor Lulu still has diarrhea. She seems to be happy, purring and playing, laying in the sun right now. I checked and she's not dehydrated, and I'm thinking maybe the all wet diet is the culprit (although Otis and Coco are just fine and they eat wet too). Perhaps it's time for a visit to the vet?
I trust my friend, she has 6 cats who are spoiled beyond belief, but wanted to put this out there to the group in case it's a no-no for diabetic cats. Advice, please?

I've not heard of kaopectate being used for cats and diarrhea and it is contra-indicated for diabetes in humans. How is the transition to raw food going? That can often firm things up. The vet may have some answers, worth a phone call at least.

Okay, no kaopectate. The transition to raw was not going too well so I took a break. The couple who own the new TailBlazers store, which sells all brands of raw, including Red dog blue cat, gave me a sample (actually a full-size bottle for free) of Grizzly Salmon Oil all-natural to try spraying on their food to make it more palatable. They also suggested putting out the food for 10 minutes, then if they don't eat to take it away for an hour, then try that cycle again, eventually they'll be hungry enough to eat. But I can't deprive the kitties of food. However, I am not giving up, we'll get to raw eventually!! At least they aren't getting any more of that awful dry stuff.
Anyhoooo, I'll give the vet a call tomorrow, and also let her know how well things are going with Lulu's BG levels.

On an unrelated matter I have a chance at my dream job, interview on Thursday. I'm thrilled, it pays about 23% of what I was earning in oil and gas, but I don't care. I have all I need materially, don't lead an extravagant lifestyle, and I would LOVE to work for this organization. I'll let you all know what it is once I learn the outcome, whether or not I get the job -- fingers crossed.

Paws crossed here for the new job. Being in oil and gas can be a bit volatile!

As for raw, I just started by mixing a tsp or two into their wet food, then gradually starting increasing the percentage amounts. A lot of premade raw food already has salmon oil in it, though I do add a bit for Neko's arthritis. Now I add warm water to the food to warm it up, then feed right away. Here are some Tips on Switching to Raw. Neko transitioned in a couple of days, the civie took a little longer.

Thanks for the tips, Wendy. I`ve bookmarked the link.

As for oil and gas, yep it sure is volatile, been laid off a couple of times during my 30+ year career. At the risk of sounding cynical, the only good thing about working in that industry is the pay and benefits.

Lulu is looking good. You're doing a great job with her. I hope you can get the diarrhea cleared up. Good luck with the interview.

Doing great with Lulu! I didn't have the patience to integrate the raw with my guys. Maybe I'll give it another try.

Good luck with the job. Doing good is often more rewarding than doing well!

Thank you both so much. As I`ve said before, couldn`t do it without this board, I try to follow instructions from you knowledgeable folks and my girl is doing great. Will get that diarrhea cleared up, I have no doubt. She seems to be feeling great, just the breakneck races to the LB, poor thing.

Just had a really rough session getting blood for Lulu`s test. I tried poking and poking and poking her ear until finally got some blood. Well, the *%?!# meter timed out. So we had to start again. Well, she takes off running, trying to hide from me, and really struggled with me while I tried again, me almost in tears thinking I'm being so rough on her. Did get the reading, down to 59 so I want to get another one in an hour. I am so sorry Lulu, poor little thing...:(

I hate it when that happens. Sometimes it seems like the ears are turnips with nothing in them. :( In that case, I try the other ear.

For sure! Tonight just isn`t my night -- this time when I tested at +5.5, I got an error message from the meter, not enough blood. But the second test showed that she`s come up to 74. She also had some LC food, the auto feeder had turned to the next scheduled time. All in all, I`m pleased with the numbers, it seems you did a great job getting this dosage right, thanks Wendy.
