Logan was a little fussy this morning and spent some time in the closet. I'm not sure if he's not feeling well or just not liking the Monday morning rush of everyone getting fed/medicated/etc. We'll see how he does at lunch time. He ended up eating 1/4 can of EVO 95% chicken/turkey and 1/2 can of Instinct Rabbit. Keeping our paws crossed that he eats well at lunch time and tonight. If not, we'll give him the mirtz. He still has liquipoo. Could it be the food? He hasn't had outright liquipoo in a while. He was having some soft BMs here and there while on the FF. He hasn't had any FF since last Monday and has been eating EVO 95% chicken/turkey, 95% duck, Instinct Rabbit and a little Instinct Chicken...mostly the 95% chicken/turkey, though. The liquipoo started Thursday night or Friday morning. He started the AB on Wed night - injections twice a day. The AB is Clindamycin. Hoping it's just the AB!

The consult with Dr Lisa is tonight. I mainly want to go over nutrition and the risk of the raw diet with Logan being on pred. Maybe she'll be able to offer some insight on his treatment plan and lack of response so far.

Good about the eating..I bet it was just the activity level this morning. He doesn't like the rush in the work day routine, does he? Hope Dr. Lisa will be able to suggest things to you tonight Kelly! So great tht you will be in contact with her.....exploring all possibilities. You are doing a Great job!! One of these days, it all has to come together!! It just HAS to...you are doing so much!!! Hope you have a good day and that Logan is acting more sociable at lunch time! (((Kelly & Logan)))

Re: 4/26 Logan AMPS 334

Hi! Looks like you've got all the right foods in place. I read something on the IBD message board about prednisone versus prednisolone - that prednisolone is BETTER because it doesn't cause diabetes like regular pred. Maybe you can ask her if it would be worth switching and if it would make a difference with his BG's. I hope this consult helps you!!!

I have a vet apt for Boomer tonight too. I have no idea if it will be worth my time or money. He didn't want to eat much this morning and I think it's because I've been messing with his food so much. Now he doesn't want anything. I'm not patient enough when it comes to switching food. Your supposed to mix it in SLOWLY but do I? No! And then after a couple days he revolts.

Good luck tonight!!!

Re: 4/26 Logan AMPS 334

I hope the liqui-poo is just from the AB and that Logan decides to eat some more now that the rush is over. I mean really, who likes Monday morning anyway? Hang in there Kelly!

Re: 4/26 Logan AMPS 334

Belle is on Prednisolone for IBD, and it caused her diabetes. From what I understand, the difference is that Prednisone is converted to Prednisolone in the liver, so it alleviates the work on the liver. As for Liquipoo, I put Belle on Blue Wilderness, and it caused a ton of gas and loose to liquid diarrhea. I think it was the high fat content, as from what I've read, low fat is the way to go for IBD. All other wet foods she's eaten have actually eliminated the diarrhea, and this made it worse. She's back to normal after a stomach bug, so I may try again because it's good for her, but I don't have my hopes up.

Re: 4/26 Logan AMPS 334, +6 276

DH2B said Logan ate 1/2 can of EVO 95% chicken/turkey and 1/2 can of EVO 95% duck. He said he had to put some chicken dust and fortiflora on it for him to finish off the last few bites of each.

Logan is on prednisolone and it's definitely made his diabetes difficult to regulate. He's very insulin resistant.

The rabbit is 63% fat and the EVO 95% chicken/turkey is 71% fat and the 95% duck is 70% fat. It's tough to find low carb, low fat canned food! Maybe this is why a lot of people end up making their own. It could be the high fat content that's causing the liquipoo. Maybe I should just give him the rabbit since it's the lowest of the three and see if the liquipoo begins to subside. He has a little over a week left on the AB - we're switching to pills tomorrow. The injections are tough - very big needle and he's starting to protest. He was eating FF chunky chicken, which is only 51% (Only!) but it has a lot of extra ingredients that can't be good for IBD - wheat gluten is one example.

It's been really hard finding food that Logan will eat consistently. Trying to balance diabetes/IBD/HL is not fun. I keep thinking he'll get a break soon but so far nothing! I'll see what Dr Lisa says about the food he's currently eating. We may want to wait until he's off the pred before we think of putting him on a raw diet.

Re: 4/26 Logan AMPS 334

(((Kelly & Logan))) Hi to the two of you!! Little fussy, eh? I don't blame him.. Monday's in the closet sound like a plan to me too!! I love the foods Logan is on.. Very healthy indeed - happy to hear he is eating for you… I am anxious to hear how the consult with Dr. Lisa goes tonight regarding Raw (Baby is on Raw too) I don't know the risks with Raw/Pred. I pray for you both on his treatment plan. No advice here on the liquipoo, but the food does not seem like it would cause it? I guess ECID though. Happy Monday & hang in there.. I know you have you hands full & I admire your strength!! :YMHUG:

Re: 4/26 Logan AMPS 334

Kelly,

Where do you buy the Evo? I'm in the Charlotte area too and have only seen it at the Home Economist Market on South Blvd in Pineville. I'd love to try it for Belle.

Yay! Someone else in the Charlotte area. The HE on South on carries the regular EVO. I've found the 95% varieties at Pet Essentials, which is off of Pineville-Matthews Rd. The address is 7510 Pineville-Matthews Road. It's a bit of a drive for me - I'm near Mtn Island Lake. They don't normally stock the Instinct but the owner will order it for me. I just buy a few cans at a time since Logan changes his mind a lot - if I buy a whole case of anything, he's guaranteed to stop eating it! Little punk. This place carries the better brands like EVO, Wellness, Merrick, etc. They carry the Nature's Variety raw but I think that contains fruits/veggies so probably not the best for IBD. They're the ones that also had the recall a month or so ago.

What vet do you use?

ouch! Maybe he dropped lower than the 276 and that's a bounce? He ate 1/2 can of 95% duck. He would probably eat more, but he's had 2 1/2 cans total so far today. He'll get a bedtime snack later.

Kelly can Logan tolerate activia yogurt that can really help cats when they are on ABs I use it a lot I know he has a lot of issues but just thought I would mention it anyway.
Hope the poo gets better soon for him and he gets to feeling better overall :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Unfortunately, he's allergic to dairy - think it's the milk protein. Violent vomiting! Sienne recommended a probiotic - I need to look into getting it. We use fortiflora, but it doesn't seem to be helping with the poo issues.

Re: 4/26 Logan AMPS 334

I'm in Fort Mill, so Pet Essentials is only about 20 minutes away. I've been taking Belle to Carolina Veterinary Specialist for her major issues. I have a local vet in Fort Mill for regular stuff. I've also seen Dr. Nan Moses at Four Seasons Cat Hospital, and she was great and is a cat only Vet.

It's been impossible to pinpoint what triggers issues with Belle's IBD. She has issues with the small bowl, so no throwup, just diarrhea. A change of food almost always resolves it, but it comes back at some point. She is extremely picky, so it's been very tough finding the right food for her. It's also hard because I have 7 other cats and I free feed, so I had to make sure she only liked what I wanted her to eat. Right now she eats Iams Low Residue(I know, but it's all she will eat). My goal is to give her half a can of the EVO or Blue Wilderness at shot time, and that will also reduce her dry food intake. With the other cats, I'm stuck with having dry, so it's probably the best I can do.

Hi Kelly
Can't wait to here what Dr. Lisa has to say about Logan and food.
It is so nice that you just made a new friend on Jason who leves nearby and has
similar issues with Belle.
You see, you are not alone. :)
Hugs to my boy Logan.

Re: 4/26 Logan AMPS 334, PMPS 390, +3 269

Nice drop for +3. Had the consult with Dr Lisa - will post about that tomorrow - too tired to do it now...and DH2B wants the computer back!

Jason, who do you see at CVS? We've been seeing Dr Hopwood but I haven't been thrilled with her. Our regular vets are Dr Watson and Dr Dillilo at Carolina Veterinary Hospital. They're located off of Pineville-Matthews Rd, as well. We used them before we moved and when he was located in the mid-town area. But, they're staff is great! They're so warm and friendly, but a little expensive!

Re: 4/26 Logan AMPS 334, PMPS 390, +3 269

Belle sees Dr. Sheaffer. She's very nice, although not as accessible as a normal family vet. She's an internal medicine specialist and very busy, so I end up having to leave messages. She always calls me back by days end though, so I can't complain. She sees Belle often, so knows her well. Well enough to think she may have diabetes from a few things I told her. That allowed us to begin treating her within two weeks of onset. They can be quite expensive, especially in trying to diagnose things with multiple ultrasounds, and such, but they do seem to know what they're doing and have all the specialists on staff. Belle loves it there, and them being 24 hours, I'm comfortable leaving her there overnight.
