I think Ember’s Libre scared several years off my life yesterday. I was at the pet adoption fair and starting to worry since her glucose was showing it was nearing 100 and her Libre has been reading around 80 higher than her actual. When it got down to 77, I started to get really nervous and figured I’d better go home to check her. As I was driving home, her low glucose alarm went off and said it was 52 and then a few minutes later it said No Signal! I was stuck in traffic and getting progressively more hysterical. I was so afraid she was dead! I made it home and she was alive and just fine, of course. My hands were shaking so badly it took a couple tries to get a good ear prick and her BG was 127. Hopefully I get the hang of the interpreting her Libre numbers before it gives me a heart attack. At least now I know it can show false lows as well as highs so I hopefully won’t be so panicked next time.

Awww, you poor mama! It’s scary when you see those lows on the Libre and the alarms are going off.

I’m sorry it was such a stressful time, especially since you weren’t home with her.
But, the good news is she was fine and as you learned, there’s a pretty good spread between those 50s numbers and where she was with a handheld meter.

And it’s great you are able to test her when she hits Low numbers

At the moment, what you are saying is comparable to what I see when Ivy hits those kind of numbers.

But again, other people have seen numbers in the 50s on the Libre within 20 points on their handheld meter, so we have to be mindful of both situations.

That no signal was probably the fact that her glucose was dropping in the Libre can’t keep up. It takes some time to recalibrate. Sometimes it’s a few minutes sometimes it’s 20 minutes and that of course can be stressful when you’re trying to figure out what’s going on.

What you were seeing is very, very normal

You will get more and more familiar with how the 2 meters read as time goes on, hopefully with not as much grey hair as I have earned in the past few years
