After 3 doses of Zeniquin, Trix does seem to pretty much be back to her version of "normal" (whatever that means)...happy appy, snuggly, spunky, and feisty for a 16 year old kitty with arthritis and really crappy kidneys. She hasn't had any further out-of-box pees since Saturday; she doesn't seem to have much, if any, post-pee discomfort; and she's no longer tentative with climbing the stairs.

I semi-slept in my own bed instead of the couch last night, but of course I woke up a few times and checked on things, and I really woke up half an hour earlier than usual for their breffis - I was wide awake so I got up and started the day. Still not a lot of sleep for this bean....I need to figure out how to sleep while under tremendous stress.....doesn't seem possible to me, though.

I spoke with her vet yesterday and for now we're going to run another 4 week course of Zeniquin since that's what we started with. If she flares again after we run this course, we'll be sure to get a urine culture done so we can figure out for sure what we're dealing with. Unfortunately I won't be surprised if it flares again, since we've been playing the AB game all year, so no doubt I'll start feeling very anxious once we reach the end of this course. And of course since she's had a few doses of AB, a culture now wouldn't be accurate.

In hindsight, which is always so very 20/20, I really regret not running labs when we were in the ER on Saturday. I have to admit I think that my stress, exhaustion and anxiety are starting to cause me to make bad decisions....I need to get a grip. Everything at the ER takes so long...by the time we were at a point where they would draw blood and urine, she'd already been in her carrier for at least 2.5 hours...labs would have added at least another hour to that. At that point, I just wanted to get her (and me) out of there...I had had enough. I'm so frustrated that my vet closes at 4 on Saturdays! This incident happened at such a reasonable hour (6pm) and if it were any day other than a weekend, we could have gone there instead of the ER. Argh.

Anyway. She's feeling better and for now that's what counts. And today will be her 5th Adequan shot.

Prayers to all....

Amy

Hi Amy,
I'm glad that the a/b is helping Trixie return to "normal for her". Now, it's time for you to return to "normal for you"--i.e., less stress, more fun. Why don't you take the day off, take a walk, and listen to some of your Springsteen records. :cool: The kitties will be fine. Your mom will be fine.
:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thanks, @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) ....unfortunately it is windy, rainy, and cold here today - blech :eek: - so as much as I love a good long walk, it's not in the stars for today. But, I think I am going to do some self-indulgent "for me not for work" bead weaving...I have some patterns that are very repetitive and therefore calming.

Hi Amy, I can so relate to your stress level. I too don't handle when the kids are sick very well and have trouble turning the brain to relax. Here's hoping your bead weaving will put you into a Zen mood and you will feel more relax. (And put those Springsteen records on ) Showing my age by using the word "record" LOL

Dream Water is a pretty good natural...get some sleep aid. I used it when traveling and couldn't afford to be groggy in the morning and was not :) Amazon is the best place to get it. Hope you enjoy beading today Amy. Extra scritches for Miss Trix.
