Top o' the morning to ye all! Hope LL'ers have a great day! Couldn't get to sleep last night (rare caffeine event), so i'm pretty sleepy this a.m. the friend that is the current cause of stress at tbp is going on vacation starting wednesday, so that is a good thing. tomorrow is my midyear review, so i'm nervous. nailbite_smile

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, willie says it is cuddle time, so gotta run!
hey, guyz! we hedded to gracie's tuday for patch duty? gotz sum kitehs needin' KTSS too! See eberybuddy soon! --Willie

Stress-free for a couple of days is good :-D Good luck with the review.

My students are taking the State Exam tomorrow and Wednesday...source of stress right there. :?

Happy Monday everyone!

Can I ask a small favor? Please don't use the star icon for Loose Lips. We use that icon for informational posts, to make it easy to spot them. Maybe you could use the heart, or Mr. Green instead?

The star use was requested by Jill and Alex in the original discussion?

anyone can do it.

who's going to start the first Loose Lips thread?

do we have any early risers who would like to volunteer to start the daily thread? somebody on the east coast maybe?

i was thinking it might be a good idea to use the star icon... just like we do for the informational posts. it'll make finding the thread so much easier.

Ooops....I missed that! Personally, I don't like it, but if Jill suggested it, that's fine.

I've been just a teensy bit busy....I've missed a lot lately. I've been handfeeding cockatiel hatchlings every two-three hours around the clock for the last 9 days. It makes for very little time for LL, and very little sleep.

Carry on!

Ok my friends!! Finally my bean lets me on this 'puter!! What did I miss yesterday? KTSS??? Party Planning? Dunes, Desert? Gracie's Patch??? NYC???: when do we go?? Tomorrow? Somebody needs to fill me in... I think we should get together today so I can play catch up.... See you!! ~~ Mannie

Happy Monday amigos. Thanks for this condo.

I missed it Christie - where are you going on vacation? Good luck with your review!!!!

Natalia I'd be stressed to the max - hope your students kick butt

Laurie DO TELL!!!! I want to know more about your babies. Any pictures?

Hi Michelle - Nicholas is a doll. I hope you are enjoying babysitting.

Patrick has the day off - four day long weekend for him. I will be working if I get emails or calls else I'll be slacking off. I've decided to skip going to the gym today. Maybe if I get more motivation I'll go. Coffee helps with motivation and energy. ~O) ~O) ~O)

this sick kitty stuff is the pits. not to whine, but you all get it. i'm trying to get him to eat and he keeps turning his head away.

somehow today ended up with a lot on it and i don't know how much to ditch in case i need to do more with him.

a friend from high school is supposed to come and have lunch with me (she's driving an hour) because she's off today; he has a vet appt at 3, daryl & i have a small group we go to once a month and it's tonight, i need to take the car in because the driver's side wiper is broken and the weather is stormy today so it can't be used til i get it done, and i have a job interview tomorrow morning and my resume disappeared in the laptop death a couple weeks ago. i need to rewrite it anyway, because the last version wasn't appropriate for this particular job.

if i weren't worried about him the rest would be fine. but i've now given him the regular dose of insulin and he's just eaten a few bites.

as i'm writing all this, i think i'm going to cancel with the friend. she'll understand.

Julie - I'm sooo sorry Punkin still isn't feeling well. Poor little dude  And, of course, you have one of those Mondays where everything needs to be done NOW. blah

Do you think your friend could bring lunch over to your house? It might be nice to have someone to take your mind off things for a bit and still be able to keep an eye on Punkin. Pizza always makes you feel better!! :-D

((((((Julie and Punkin)))))))

A tip - save documents you do not want to lose on google docs website. This way if your computer dies its in the cloud and you can use another computer. Its tough to learn these things the hard way. As i have a gmail account instead of just saving a doc halfway through, I email drafts to myself with my gmail account also. I also won't buy anything but a Mac ever ever again. Three laptops in four years and the mac has paid for itself -dropped (really slam dunked) it on a cement floor open and it restarted. The HP would have been toast.

At TBP :-| Just spent 5 hours in one area doing one thing @-) (well, multiple things but the process is the same). Going to be in that area again after lunch for my usual time-sensitive projects. I'm not getting into my other 4 areas today to do the same thing. Maybe tomorrow... :? Some of the work isn't even mine. I'm doing it as a "favor" for other people who claim to be "too busy at the moment" to do it cat(2)_steam

Leroy is weird. He won't eat until Emma sneaks a bite out of his bowl  Not sure why he waits. Maybe he waits to see if Emma doesn't pass out from "poisoning"? ;-)

Hey Kitties,
Our party in NYC is postponed until Monday, May 9th. My beans decided, reluctantly, that it was more important to take care of the "lake" in our cellar than go to the opera tonight, especially since a flood watch has been put into effect for our area and we will have heavy rain for the next 2 days. But its OK with me, because I got to go out in my garden this morning and boy, did I have fun watching the birds. But they all ran away from me, even though I used my best hunting skills. These little birds are not big and slow, like pigeons are.
Your pal,
Rusty
p.s. what's happening today? I need to chillax. I didn't get much sleep last night because of all the packing.

oh ella, grim. too bad you aren't getting to go to NYC. have you had any luck with those paints that are supposed to seal out moisture? i'm thinking one might be called "drylock?" we have a daylight basement and painted the masonry walls that are against soil with that paint and haven't had any problem since, but a full basement might be a different situation.

squeem - don't you just feel like sometimes you're stirring things around? some days at home are like that - you know you were busy all day but somehow nothing got actually "done" that you can show for it.

feeling less pressure - got the wipers done the second the place opened, so if there's a downpour i can still get to the vet at 3; canceled with my friend and she was fine with it; told the host for tonight's group that we were iffy but definitely not for dinner, and punkin ate a tiny bit.

i've used google docs for a few things - the laptop death was unexpected. went from fine to dead in a moment - and it was maybe 14 months old. cursed computers. we have a netbook and a server i could've saved it on - usually i save things on more than 1 computer and i'm not sure why i didn't in this case. i did email it out, but the "sent" emails are gone with the lappy. i type fast (hence too long of posts) so retyping it is no big deal. in fact, i think i'll be disciplined and go do it now.

thanks for the encouragement. punkin is at least acting like the nausea is less.

Hey Rusty, Monday, May 9 sounds good for me. Sorry about your Beans' cellar, but glad you had fun watching the birds in the garden. I saw my kitty friend stroll by the pation, but he ignored me. Guess he must have a girlfriend elsewhere. Catch ya later, Maggie

Thanks for the tip about the waterproof paint, Julie. I've been thinking along those lines, but it appears that our problem needs more than a paint job. After the spring floods subside, we are going to have the whole floor re-cemented with hydraulic cement and repainted. Fortunately it is not a "finished" basement, although we do store stuff there (not much, however, we learned that lesson years ago!!).

Another topic: I've been wanting to ask this question for a long time, but never got to it: How do you guys discard your old insulin? I still have old pens and vials in the fridge because I don't know if it is dangerous to put insulin into the landfill. I asked the pharmacist if they would take it and dispose of it according to medical guidelines, but he said just to throw it out. I hate to do that without knowing what harm it might cause to the environment.

Now, off to drink a beer and then to tackle our "lake" again. I took a break this afternoon and rode about 18 miles on my bike. Yea!

Ella

hmmm, maybe break the vials/pens open and boil the liquid to denature the insulin?
(I still have old insulin in my fridge too...)

It is not considered a hazardous waste under 40 CFR 261 according to the Material Safety Data Sheet.

I would think since it becomes inactive in less than 30 days at room temperature its final environmental fate is minimal to none.

Unlike other prescription type product showing up in our drinking water throughout the Great Lakes region. Plus by you are disposing of it in the trash verses flushing it down the drain like other "drugs."

WOW. The ground here is now totally saturated. I live up on a hill and the rain is now puddling like a flood in my backyard. I've been here 11 years now...never seen it this bad. Ella & Rusty ...this is headed your way in the next 12 hours or so...

I am afraid to look in the basement this evening.

I tried to plant Maverick's tree yesterday and the hole filled right up with water. I did a new spot today and I'm wishing it will be okay. I didn't wait five minutes like I did the last time. Just watched for seeping. We haven't even had a ton of rain - just not enough sun to dry the land up.

resume done! feeling satisfied with it.

did you get his tree planted, Karrie?

we've had incredible wind since sometime last night - trees down, a little rain, but not that much, just a lot of wind.

i feel like i should be wearing a nametag: "hello, my name is julie and i'm apparently a Chatty Cathy!"

Gah... long day!! I wish I was going on vacation, Karrie!! A friend at work who has been creating some conflict is heading out to San Francisco this week. Another colleague is heading out on a Bahamas Cruise, and a client is heading to Houston for a horror movie convention. I think I would take any of the three right now, and I hate scary movies!!

Getting the feeling that tomorrow's mid-year evaluation at tbp won't be a total picnic. Even though I have a work at home agreement that allows me to work at home one set day per week (Wednesday) and other times upon occasion not to exceed 16 total hours per week, my boss doesn't like that we can work at home, so he made a big deal about me doing it today and wants to discuss at my review. There are just times when I question whether I'm cut out to work in the environment I'm in.

We got quite a bit of rain today as well, and may be getting a bit more this evening, though thankfully the heaviest appears to be headed north and south of us. Hope Ella's basement doesn't get too flooded, Karrie gets Mav's tree planted, and Beth doesn't get pummeled too badly tonight!

Julie... looks like your schedule came together nicely today! Glad you were able to get almost everything in... hope you can reschedule with your friends soon!

Hey, guyz!! De bean kept me busy today, but I can sneak out tonite!! Anybuddy up for a moonlite dip in de green lagoon over on Lantusy Island tonite?? --Willie

I always just put it in the Sharps container. I figured it can't hurt to be extra careful. Check to see if your city/town has a program where you bring in old medicines for proper disposal.

Every Monday is like this @-) It's stuff that's due on Monday plus the stuff from over the weekend. And it stinks when the other team doesn't provide the supplies my team needs :?

See you !!

See you guys! ~~ Mannie

As requested, I'm attaching a couple of pictures....they really are pretty ugly at this point! They look like little dinosaurs. But they make the sweetest little chirps! Give them a couple of weeks and you won't believe they are the same creatures....

I'm just glad they have reached the point where I can get some sleep at night. The first week is pretty brutal!

My goodness, Laurie...I think they're adorable...but then again, I love pretty much any and all animals and therefore can never apply the word "ugly" to them. Your dedication is very, very admirable! I'm looking forward to seeing the updated pics!

every 2-3 hours around the clock for 9 days? :o how are you even alive? they are, of course, very cute, laurie!

christie, i'm seconding the good luck wishes for your review tomorrow. hope it goes better than you expect! do you have any data on the benefit of working from home? i did nearly all of my prep at home, just going in for meetings and programs I was leading. i am certain it was more productive than working in my office. People always interrupted me to yack or with questions, and i would take breaks with the rest of the staff. i liked having my own office but my fav time to work in it was on Fridays when most of the rest of the staff was gone.

OMG!! those baby chicks look like they weren't ready to hatch!! Are all baby birds eyes still covered over like that? As you can tell, I haven't seen any baby birds before  and they definitely qualify for the "so ugly they're cute" category.
