+1 am gave 1T ffg to slow down , have to work today
Started Bella on sub q fluids last night for his CKD

Welcome home. Back to the grind as they say. Nice Bella doesn't mind the fluids. Olive is okay for 50 ml then starts getting restless. But purrs the whole time.

The "welcome home" leg lovin's are the best ever. I'll bet Bella was real happy to have you back.

Jealous here that you got a vacay. Many sugar cat owners just can't get away!

Are the subq fluid pretty easy to do? Do they always go in the same spot? (Leo doesn't need it, just asking).

Very lucky DH can take care of them, not always perfect but they are breathing when I get home lol
Sub q super easy if cat cooperates, I do around the same area, I'm gonna start doing 100 every other day, seems to me if he will handle it doing it all at once, if not 50 am and 50 pm, I can tell hes a little more lovey, I think it just makes him feel better, vet said they are excellent for the ckd

Why you're giving fluids? Is Bella dehydrated? You don't need to start fluids until the Kidney disease progresses. Ravan does not get any sub Q fluid. His Creatinine Level is 2.5 which is stage 2 of CKD.

This is from Tanya's web site on CKD , "Maintenance fluid therapy is indicated for patients that are not eating or drinking" and ," Sub-Qs are normally used when the cat can no longer drink enough to remain hydrated, which in practice tends to be once creatinine levels are consistently over 3.5-4.0 mg/dl (USA) This equates to high Stage 3 of the IRIS staging system.
They may also be needed on a temporary basis for cats who develop problems with vomiting or diarrhoea, which increase body fluid losses, or for cats with pancreatitis."

Ask Marje. She told me to be careful giving fluids unless necessary.

@JoyBee&Ravan ... thanks, great info reminder :bighug:

I was real active on the forum last year, helping others. Anyhow, someone in the last 2 years gave sub-q fluids to a cat and it made the cat worse. I'm sorry I can't remember the circumstances. The cat may have had cardiac issues.
