I slept through my alarm last night- I was going to try to get a good nadir reading. I think I have Monday off to try again. I am curious as to why everyday usually three hours later (this is right before I go to work) Georgie rises to above his AMPS level. Is this a food spike? Oh please Georgie lets get to the right levels, its breaking my heart. I pray that he will get better.

Something is odd about his a.m. cycle vs. his p.m. cycle. His a.m cycle says more insulin and his p.m cycle says he's just right. So lets run down your routine. How much and when do you feed him in relationship to testing and shots? Because he appears to food spike in the morning but drops fast and hard in the evening. Now that could just be his unique pattern or it could be something off in your routine.

I don't understand it either. The only difference is that I give him his Zobaline tab crushed in his food in the am. I am at work all day and usually home at night. I used to give him a piece of boiled chicken an hour or two before his am shot if he is non stop whining for food but I have tried to stop that in order to get everything right and get accurate readings. I feed both my boys a half a can of friskies twice a day and usually a quarter can mid cycle if georgie is super whiney- maybe this mid cycle feeding is not beneficial for him. I give the shot while feeding and feed 12 hours apart. I am stumped.

Okay its not a flaw in the routine because that's perfect. Mine all eat 4 times a day. So it works out to a can to a can and a half per cat depending on size of cat.

What we might want to try with him is adding a bolus on his a.m cycle so the Lantus can get a bite. Do you know if you can get R without a script? Most states you can. R is a very powerful in and out insulin but only lasts in their system about 4 hours.

How the bolus would work is you would test feed and shoot the Lantus as normal then 30 minutes after he eats give a tiny dose of R. The R would yank down his numbers early in the the cycle and be wearing off by onset of the Lantus so instead of having to bring him down from the reds it would kick in with him already in the yellows.

If you want to go that way I'd suggest starting it on a day off so you can test a lot. And post so I can help guide you.

But honestly that's the only thing I can think of because I'm afraid we raise him and he'll get a beautiful a.m. cycle and crash on you on the p.m. cycle.

Well, I am going to throw a monkey wrench in here, but I would be inclined to try a decrease first. I have a feeling he is in a perpetual bounce state most of the time.

So, IF you tried that, and it didn't work, no harm no foul. Its a safe gamble. If I am wrong (which you would know in 3 days or so, after the depot wears down), then you could look at Mel's suggestion.
