everything's looking great so far this morning. punkin was purring while i got things ready. i woke up early worried about the ketones, so got up, checked him and went ahead and gave him his shot 45 minutes early. With the 1/2 dose last night and the concern about the ketones, i figured it wouldn't hurt to just get the insulin in him. hope that thinking was ok.

he's taking a long time to eat this morning - after a couple of days of little food it must look like a ton to him. but he's diligently sitting there working on it. i added the usual almost equal amounts of water to it.

Happy Easter!

Re: 4/24 punkin amps 262

Hi Julie,
So glad to read that Punkin is feeling better today and that there were no ketones. He is eating, even if slowly, so that must mean that his mouth infection is getting better. You guys had quite a day yesterday. Today will be better!!
Happy Easter,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 4/24 punkin amps 262

hmmm hoping so. he didn't finish the food, very unusual for him, didn't wash after eating and is looking a bit huddled right now.

the cerenia injection was supposed to last 24 hours so i was going to give him the cerenia pill at about +3 but am wishing i'd already given it to him.

he did eat probably 1/2 can - it's just he usually sucks it all up and then licks anya's bowl.

Re: 4/24 punkin amps 262

i got 1/2 tab down him wrapped in tuna, but the other one must've melted into the fish so he could taste it. wouldn't eat that one.

he's obviously feeling oogie. hiding under a table against the wall. my poor guy.

Re: 4/24 punkin amps 262

Hi Julie. Amazing how these little furballs show us they don't feel well. They sure have their own body language. I won't be visiting much today. I'm cooking the holiday dinner and Gus kind of takes a lot of my time. But, I'll be reading up on poor Punkin. Hang in there........they say it gets better. :?

Re: 4/24 punkin amps 262

Poor punkin. ((hug)) I know the frustration of having a miserable kitty and knowing there is only so much you can do. Fingers and paws crossed that is feeling better soon. I'm sure the KTSS will be along later today with some of the magic chicken soup!

Re: 4/24 punkin amps 262 +3/291

got the rest of the cerenia in him - he's def feeling a little better. got the clindamycin down him too. anya left a lot, about his usual amount, so i let him just finish that. don't want to overload him.

he peed while i was getting his food ready, so still no ketone check. i was on alert for the first 3 hours, and wouldn't you know it, he went the moment i'm busy.

what do you do if you have a trace of ketones? maybe i could just go ahead and do that in case, while i'm waiting for the insulin to kick in more and to catch him for a test.

Re: 4/24 punkin amps 262 +3/291 Q on ketones?

the main thing you can do when there are trace ketones is make sure he is eating and has lots of fluids. We usually suggest mixing extra water into the food to make sure he gets some extra.

I hope Punkin starts feeling better.

Re: 4/24 punkin amps 262 +3/291

ok - i do that, so at least that's one preventative i can continue. i do roughly equal amounts of canned food and water, so he gets a lot of water daily.

thank you!

Re: 4/24 punkin amps 262 +3/291 +6/278 more runs

+6/278 - someone had diarrhea and I assume it was him. not blow out yet, and he's not due for another dose of anything til tonight, so we'll keep on as we're going.

is canned pumpkin good for stopping them up or just making them go? I have the yogurt and think i'll try a little of that. he didn't want the chicken treat after i tested him just now, but eventually ate it. getting more salmon FF to try to coax him to eat more.

the vet called again to check on him - of course, before i saw the LB mess.

Re: 4/24 punkin amps 262 +3/291 +6/278 more runs

Julie, I'm really sorry to hear about punkins ickyness lately, I don't know about the pumpkin and what it does but i would be interested to know. Did you ever find out who had the sick tummy? I sure hope he starts to feel better real soon. I'll be thinking about you guys, and thank you for coming over to my condo and peeking in on me and Tommy, that means a lot especially knowing you have your hands full at your home ;-)

Re: 4/24 punkin amps 262 +3/291 +6/278 +8/251

+8/251

even though it's past the nadir, just to get some food and water in him i gave him about a Tablespoon of ff mixed with some yogurt and another T of water. he ate most of it.

heh heh he didn't want to try the yogurt so first i smeared it on his face. no eating it. then, because he compulsively licks me, i dipped the back of my hand in the yogurt (EWWW) and he licked it off. probably not enough yet to help.

he wants nothing to do with the pumpkin, but i'll keep trying. just the one ickypoo so far. i'm pretty sure it was him, squirrel. anya is healthy.

dinner time for the beans.

ETA: well i was wrong - a second pile appeared. it's gotta be him, but i have yet to catch him in the act. every time i follow him down the hall he acts like he was just checking things out, not interested in using the box.

ugh - i don't know how concerned to be and not sure what else i can even do.

i suppose his shed has to refill from the last couple of days . . . i still haven't been able to catch him and check for ketones.

he has had 2 "pudding poos" today, not blow outs, but not normal, i suppose from the antibiotic. he won't eat the yogurt or the pumpkin. just gave him 2 oz of tuna water and he lapped that up, so at least that's something.

i'm feeling a little more optimistic - he had a normal dinner & +3 snack - mixed the FF with yogurt and water and his tummy (knock on wood) seems to be ok. however i did just give him another round of the antibiotics and i'm hoping it doesn't set him off.

Noxin has the runs too. I just finished tricking him into eating some pumpkin by smearing some on his paw - he had to lick it to clean it off. He didn't seem to mind it at that point, but won't actively eat it when offered.

Hi Julie,
So sorry Punkin is having a hard time. When Tessie Lou was on AB's, she had kinda runny poop, too. As soon as she completed the course of it, the poop went back to normal. To me, his numbers aren't at all bad, considering he has an infection. The pukus would definitely concern me though. Did the vet think the puking was from the mouth infection?

Re: 4/24 punkin +8/251 +10/298 pmps 270 +3/264

happily, we are vomit-less today. he's taking cerenia, an anti-barf drug, and it seems to be working.

the vet thinks the vomiting was from the clavamox - diarrhea too. i think the clindamycin he's on now (started yesterday morning) is probably upsetting his tummy some, but not so much that we need to take him off. i think it's the best antibiotic for mouth stuff.

he does seem better tonight after fairly normal eating dinner & snack. i think i can sleep tonight!

i did put pumpkin on his paws - had heard that somewhere. i think he licked it off, but it wasn't much. i wasn't sure if you can use it for diarrhea or if it was just for constipation, so i didn't try too hard to get it down him. the yogurt does seem like it's helping.

Re: 4/24 punkin +8/251 +10/298 pmps 270 +3/264

Julie,
Well, that's good that he thinks the vomiting was from the AB, not something else. I hope he can tolerate this new AB better and it clears up the dental problem. These poor kits of ours--if it's not one thing, it's another! Tessie takes 1/2 tsp of pumpkin daily for her poop. It helps firm hers up. Hers have always been a bit loose. It is fiber, so adds a lot of bulk to the stools, too. Tessie Lou eats it off a spoon and thinks it's the best thing since Pill Pockets! I didn't know about yogurt...aren't cats lactose intolerant?

Get some sleep now, if you can. That's what I'm gonna do. Night!
