WCR: is eating breakfast. Very curious as to why her cat carrier is out. Both girls are giving it the evil eye. Heading back down to the dental vet this morning, hoping everything at the check up looks good.

Went out and bought some treats for mocha last night. Freeze dried chicken. Bought them at the local pet store. Said ingredients: freeze dried chicken so I assume they are safe for her. She gobbled up a piece last night.

Re: 4/24 mocha amps 229

HOPE the vet goes well for you this morning!!!! What kind of chicken treats did you buy? I buy the one's made by Halo, the cats go insane for them, I order them off of amazon.com since they are cheaper than the store. Hope you have a nice Caturday!!! Nice amps btw!

Nice AMPS #, poor Mocha another vet visit today.... sending well wished for a successful dental sign off :thumbup
Yay for the chicken treats.. I am soooooo glad Mocha's mouth could eat them too!! Also.. if you soak one is some warm water for a about a minute.. it really helps the texture/smell for kitty. Have a wonderful weekend!!! Cheering you all on..... :RAHCAT

Re: 4/24 mocha amps 229

Good luck with the dental check-up. I hope you don't need ear plugs -- a Siamese in a car for a couple of hours could be painful if Mocha expresses her thoughts about travel. Good AMPS.

Re: 4/24 mocha amps 229 +2 329 back from vets, long

well we are back from the vets. The ride down there started out ok. She was loud, but we are used to that. Then about a 1/2hr into the trip, she peed. Thankfully she peed most of it into her litter box. But then she also decided she needed to poop, which she did, and then she proceeded to lay in it :o so we had to pull over and try to clean her up the best we could. The smell in the house can sometimes be powerful, the smell in an enclosed car is overpowering to say the least! So we cleaned her up and headed back out on the road. It rained all the way down there, which didn't amuse mocha in the least. She cried the entire, and I mean entire, way down there.

The vet saw us immediately and almost seemed shocked at how well mochas mouth has healed up. She said there was one stitch that had not dissolved yet, but she didn't seem concerned about that at all. She just kept saying oh wow, she looks wonderful! So then we told her we are having a really hard time brushing mochas teeth and could she possibly show us a better way, which she then tried to, but mocha was having none of it. She said, hmmm I see what you mean! But then she asked if mocha likes the toothpaste and we said yes, she does lick it right up off our fingers and she said that that might be enough for her so to keep giving her the toothpaste each night so I guess we will continue with that. She also said we should try these dental treats that will help her out, and I asked if they were safe for diabetics, which she said yes, they are fine for them. She said she should get one a day, they are about the size of a tootsie roll. So we ended up buying them too. Another 12.50 added to the bill, why not, we are made of money!

Mocha was happy the whole exam only took less then 10 minutes and she was back in the carrier ready to come home. She was quieter on the way home then what she was on the way down there which was nice ... especially so we could hear her pee again, this time no where near her litter box. I tried the best I could do clean up the damage with paper towel, but we were also stuck in construction traffic and had no where to get off. Peter is now cleaning up the carrier and the messy towels and blankets are in the wash. What an ordeal!

We tested her right before we left the vets, and she was at 329, not bad considering how ticked she was. We will test her later tonight once she has a chance to cool off.

Here are the list of ingredients for the dental bites, and a picture to show how large they are! They are fairly soft, I would almost have to compare them to the freeze dried chicken treats we bought her. There are only 24 bites in a box. She is supposed to get 1 a day, but we can't really afford to drive down there to pick them up, and we can't really budget in that extra money even if the local vet sold them. So if they are really safe for her, then we will give her may one a week, along with the toothpaste and hope for the best! The purebites are the new treats we bought for mocha.

Ingredients:
freeze-dried fish, barley malt extract, antioxidants (containing tocopherois, ascorbic acid, natural flavor, citric acid, polysorbate 80, propylene glycol, canola and/or soybean oil, potassium sorbate), dried whey protein concentrate (source oflysozyme, lactoferrin and lactoperoxidase).

Re: 4/24 mocha amps 229 +2 329 back from vets

Great news regarding Mocha's mouth!! Yay!! Baby loves those Pure Bites & they are softer than Halo or Prime Bites, I have all three for Baby LOL Becuase of course, Sadi will not touch them.. picky!! About the Dental Treats, I dunno... maybe post in Health - I always post there with treat questions. Made of $$$, eh? I hear ya.. things add up so dang quickly -- the healthy stuff is ALWAYS expensive, it is a conspiracy I tell you!! Even human stuff - I eat all healthy & anthing Baked or at the Natural Food/Organic Stores is always more $$$$. Frusturating. Oooooo how I am excited about Mocha's vet visit going well... messy girl though!! Geez.. what a mess, do you have a vet any closer to you???

Re: 4/24 mocha amps 229 +2 329 back from vets

Glad to hear she's healing well, you must be so relieved.

I'm not familiar with the feline dental treats. We buy Virbac dental products for our dog, and I have found excellent prices at both PetCareRx and 1800PetMeds so you could try looking online to see if you can get a better deal.

KB doesn't have many teeth, so when he gets chicken treats I sort of rub them between my fingers and they shred pretty easily.

Re: 4/24 mocha amps 229 +2 329 back from vets

Great report from the vet, that must have been relieving. Sounds like your trip down and back was pretty stressful but at least it is over now!!! Don't know anything about the dental treats, I agree that you should post on health! Hope your day gets back to normal and Mocha's numbers come down. At least the vet visit is done and over with! Have a happy Caturday!

Re: 4/24 mocha amps 229 +2 329 back from vets

Hi Devon-

It's GREAT to hear that Mocha's dental is healing well. I'm glad the vet saw how hard it is to brush her teeth too. Is the vet far away? I've never packed an LB in the car before, but my vet isn't far - 10 minutes at the most.

Re: 4/24 mocha amps 229 +2 329 back from vets

I'm glad Mocha's mouth looks good, that must be a big relief to you. Sorry about the travel issues, seems like driving with Siamese always results in have stories to tell. Sorry yours were the messy kind.

Re: 4/24 mocha amps 229 +2 329 back from vets

Devon, you might ask your dental vet about Proden Plaqueoff http://www.plaqueoff.com/proden_plaqueo ... animal.htm. We have been using it for more than year with our dogs and one of our civie's, Charlie. Our vet thought they would all need dental work a year ago, but at last check all of their teeth are clean and plaque free. I just recently started the other civies and Blackie on it. The kitties get such a small amount that they don't even notice it in their food. And with that small amount it isn't very expensive. They even make a product for humans!

I'm glad the vet visit went well, even though the trip didn't. I hope Mocha is calming down and feeling better about being home.

Re: 4/24 mocha amps 229 +2 329 +9 265

thanks everyone. I was glad to hear that mochas mouth looks good, that everything is healing up good. But like I told peter, I was kinda torn which way to go. Half of me was hoping something small in her mouth may have been affecting her BG numbers, something to explain why she was doing really good right before the dental, and not so good after the dental. But then on the other hand, I was hoping nothing was wrong with her mouth, because I knew deep down financially we would not be able to afford to take care of it at this point. I guess we just have to accept the fact the dental didn't push mocha into regulation like we were hoping, but she isn't in pain, and that is really what is important!

Traci, mochas reg vet is only 10 minutes away, this is her dental vet, and she was 2 hours away. We bought a huge dog carrier for her, and was able to put in a small litterbox for her, plus a soft place to lay, and she still had room to get up and move about, so she wouldn't get sore on the road.

Ele, I checked out that link. Very interesting! I will definitely talk to the vet about trying that out. All the ingredients are safe for our sugar babies?

Re: 4/24 mocha amps 229 +2 329 +9 265

Yes, I think it is safe for diabetics. The only ingredient is seaweed. It looks like a greenish brown powder and none of the kitties have noticed it in their food. You give such a small amount, like 1/16 of a teaspon. It comes with a little tiny spoon. I had tried brushing Charlies teeth, but I just wasn't consistent with it. And now after a year on the plaqueoff, his teeth look great.

I know what you mean about hoping/not hoping that something was wrong. I was doing that with Blackie's UTI's, but finally I had to realize that even though I don't know why his insulin needs increased, I need to give the amount of insulin that would get him back on track. I hope Mocha has recovered from her trip.

she is apparently at a stand still tonight. not much of a drop at all in the last few hours. Two more cycles at this dose and then she goes back up once again.

Ele, I am going to talk to our vet about that stuff. Seems like it would be so much easier then brushing her teeth!

So, Mocha was SOOOOO happy to be going for a ride in the car to the vets that she.....well.....she let you know how happy she was...
That sounds like the trip from hell....two hours and you had all that going on? You must be exhausted!
Good news that her mouth looks good...now, still have the BG issues but as you said, it's so much better that there are no complications. What a Day! Hope the car cleaned up ok....so glad you are done with that,k right?
That a nice yellow PMPS in spite of everything! :-D

Sorry about the trip to the vet, sounds familiar. Tess had plaque problems too and I was glad to hear the suggestions here.

Check out the new link at the top of the page, Donate/Subscribe/ Shop. At the bottom of that page there are links for "Affiliates." FDMB gets a donation when you order from their links. I found those Enzadent chews at Entirely Pets for $7.99. And they had the Proden product for $16.99 for a year's worth. I'm going to talk to my vet about them too.
