3 WEEK'S OTJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is so hard to believe that already a week has gone by since Max's party and
that it has been 3 weeks since he last had insulin.

Max is wonderful. It is amazing how we forget what they were like before all of this happened.
We have been testing him a couple of times a day and his range has been in the 60's.
He did give me a panic on Tuesday night when he threw a 125 but in true Max show off
form, he brought himself down to a 53 a few hours later.

He is also used to the new routine in the morning and has quickly forgotten the mad run to
his test chair. He waits in the kitchen now for his breffis and hangs around a lot more.
We are trying to reduce the amount of food now as Mr. Max is now 19 pounds, so he gained
a bit of weight.

I said several times in our condo that there was one last sign I was so desperate to return, my
Max sleeping with me. He used to do that all the time before he got sick and for the past 6 months, no matter how many times I carried im to bed, he would jump right off.
Well, this week, 3 times he stayed snuggled in the crook of my arm, his head resting on it and gave me his old love nibbles. Totally awesome.
Then there was another day that he was waiting for me by the stairs to come home from work and was he ever meowing when I got in.

Thank you for giving me back my Max.

So last Saturday after the party, I stopped at vet #1 to tell her the good news. She was busy so I told them that Max was off insulin and and told them to have the vet call me. She never did. Then a few days later, sister Chloe started throwing up blood again. The vet finally called me back about her and when I asked if she heard that Max was off insulin, she said yes and that was it. Could not care less. Now how disgusting is that? Very sad.

Well we miss everyone here and try and visit as much as we can.
Hugs from Max. He truly is a much happier kitty now thanks to the love
and support he got in LL.

Max is rockin' the numbers! 60's are awesome  Maybe he's forgiven you for all the needles now that he's feeling so much better and the needles are all gone, but whatever has brought him back to sleeping with you and being his old self is great! I'm so happy to see how well it's going for y'all

Woohoo Max!

I'm so glad Maxamillion (new twist on Maximillian) :-D is back to his old self. Sorry about the vet  that was about the attitude of mine too, except that he doesn't belive it and say it won't last long (going on 9 months now...) but then again he also doesn't think diet is important so no wonder remission doesn't last.

Sounds like a great week one for Max! Although really, it's week 3. cat_pet_icon

Sorry to hear about Chloe, hope the mean vet will help.

Thank's Monique
That is what she said when I told her a few weeks ago that he ws at .25.
Oh, don't expect that last, blahblahblah.

I feel bad for the other kitties that could have a "second chance" like Max, so
at least I try and help here.

You're right Flea!!!! Thanks, will go and change that to 3 weeks OTJ.
Mean vet didn't help too much either other than to tell me to give her vaseline
in case she had hairball irritation. She stopped throwing up the next day.
The 3 of them need checkups, I just don't feel like going to her now.

Missing you Randi and Max.. but for all the right and GREAT reasons!

Not sure how you guys do it without a great vet by your side.. I'm just not that strong.. this morning at the vet.. the doctor was working on Hitch.. and I looked at her, she looked back at me.. "oh Dawn! It's ok.. it'll be alright.. we'll figure out what's wrong and get him fixed right up".. Not only do my cats need a wonderful doctor for all their "special-ness".. *I* do too..

Max continues to amaze. And it's better than wonderful that you have the old Max back. It just makes me smile to to read about that.

I'm glad Chloe is over whatever was irritating her stomach.

I just wish you could find a vet who was smart and had some empathy. Yeesh!

Thanks Dawn
I cannot say that it is and was easy to not have a vet to support us and you are so lucky
to have one that does. That is why my gratitude for the board is over the top.
This is the place that saved and healed my Max, of course with a little help from me right? :-D
I want to scream from the rooftop for all diabetic cat owners to get over here.

My second original vet will be returning from Maternity leave in June and I was told
no more babies so I might just switch back to her. She was amazing and was right by my side
when my Sasha(GA) went into kidney failure.

Sienne-the vet you had recommended to me is very well known in the city and I liked him a lot, even though he aslo told me I could not do what I (we) did). I need to sit back and see
what direction I want to go in. I have been at this hospital for 20 years.

Heyyyyyyyyyyy-

Oh Randi, he's sleeping with you again! Isn't that just the best! I love reading about Max.
I know i glanced at your SS and saw those continually incredible numbers he's been having. I also saw the 125 and figure you flipped on that one.
But then he drops 70 pts like a tank.

BTW, I don't like your vet from here. WHY ARE THEY SO CLOSE-MINDED?
I fell into this FDMB world, and thank goodness we did. I know Hank would not be where he is today otherwise.
But if these vets care about animals, and you know they must or at some point did, WHY if there is info. out there to help these patients be healthy wouldn't they embrace it?
Aside from any differences on protocol, yours didn't even sound happy for you, ...that's just awful & Makes me so mad! I'd sure look around for other options.

We've gone through this whole thing without a vet. Had an introductory appt. w/ someone a month ago, but haven't used her for anything. We were already well on our way by then. Having such big stuff going on as this when you don't have established relationship with someone who knows your pet is not fun. Soon we are going to have to do the same for a dental. Scary.

Well, we're thrilled for Max, We care tons. :YMHUG: Can you believe it's been 3 weeks?!
So proud of our boys!

Wonder what's up with Chloe? Hope she feels better. is she eating and otherwise acting ok?

So glad to see the MAX REPORT!

betty

((((Randi)))) was looking forward to reading your Caturday report today!!! Soooooo happy you got Max back in the bed with you! I bet you were smiling in your sleep!!! It is so great to hear that his numbers are still fabulous! Gosh that vet makes me mad, how imcompassionate and unsensitive! IF Scrabble goes otj (anti-jinx) I am going to visit the vet that first diagnosed him and told me that there was no way Scrabble would ever get off of insulin and that a diet change would not matter ha! I owe sooooo much to the board too, my new vet is great but all of the support and advice I have gotten here.
Have a great weekend!! I am so glad you have been here every day looking over our condo's. I always look forward to your posts!!! Hugs!

Hi there! Great report for Max. I can't believe your vet isn't happy about him being OTJ. It's gotta be an ego issue. It's really sad that vets can be like that. I left a message with my vet too and (two actually) and she didn't call me either. I think mine not calling is a matter of her being too busy to call about good news. They are so busy it's annoying in that office. Well...we're happy for you and Max!!!

I'm happy to hear that Max has finally met his last criteria and is officially your Old Max again! :-D

I'm sorry about the vet experience, but do think this is a good opportunity for you to shop around and find someone that will be partner in all things Max and Chloe, especially now, when there isn't a crisis or issue to be concerned with.

We all should have wonderful vets....right? But in the end, it is US who end up doing what we think is best as far as the FD is concerned, right? YOU and MAX did it Randi!!! You sound very happy to have your old Max back in bed with you and feeling great! We are thrilled that you tow have had such wonderful success!

Thank you so much for stopping by so much to everyone's condos and lending a hand. That is SO good of you to keep visiting when you don't HAVE to do so. Like all the wonderful Beans who have brought their kitties to the Falls and come back all the time to give us a comforting word and support! :YMHUG:

Give a hug to Max from us...and my two are looking for him to be here soon....thanks for picking up Logan. It's a party for No Reason....be WE know that being thankful IS a good reason!
Great job Randi...you did so well and so did Max! :thumbup

Hi, Randi & Max!!! Happy 3 weeks OTJ!! Awesomely Amazing!! :thumbup
I am sooooooo happy to hear Max is sleeping with you again too!! I love those sweet, cuddly times :YMHUG:
My blood gets fired up thinking about the insensitive Vets (disclaimer: I am not saying all Vets are insensitive) Baby's Vet couldn't care less, just says.. Diabetes is a very hard disease to manage - basically left me feeling hopeless until I found FDMB. Her Vet did not even call to find out how her OD went that first day on Lantus ohmygod_smile

Wishing you a happy Caturday & a wonderful weekend (((Randi & Max)))

Hi, Randi -- It's always wonderful to hear great reports!! Especially that Max is sleeping with you again. Sometimes, I've felt so much like Kitty's clinician that I miss having plain old cuddle time.

It hurts to see how skeptical so many vets are that diabetic kitties can be helped. But each OTJ kitty helps spread the word.

Enjoy your morning snuggles with Max! :-D

Hi Randi. I'm a little late reading your Caturday report (long trip home today and then an evening when I just vegged out in front of the TV). I am so happy for you that your Max is doing all of his old things again. You'll have to put him on a diet, though!! Too bad about your vet. I hope you find one who will be more supportive. And I hope that Chloe will get better on her own so that you don't have to worry about taking her to that vet!
Anyway, I want to thank you for your daily visits to Stu's condo and for your support. Stu likes to hear all about how Max is doing. He's very proud of his pal!
Have a good rest-of-the-weekend. Let me know when you want to "do" Plattsburgh!!

Definitely awesome WCR here! And, yes, you had plenty to do with it!

What a nice report Randi! In spite of the bad experience you're having with your vet (it seems to be going around...bad bedside manner and such). Seems like the vet is a little pissed that you took such great control of this situation by yourself...OH WELL :) Maybe you need a new vet...

But more important..It's so great to hear that you're getting your 'old' Max back!!! I can so relate to this because much of Alex's behavior changed with FD dx. And lots is slowly returning piece by piece and just this week he started cuddling on the bed again and it brought tears to my eyes cause I never thought it would happen. When I read about Max sleeping on your bed I had the same tears starting up. I'm so happy for you.

Please do keep updating us. It's so great to hear such happy news  ♥
