It's been a while since I have posted a condo. It's been a rough semester. Long days, entirely too much work and lots of drama at work. Since I can't be home enough, I haven't even tried increasing Walter's dose - so he's been running a bit higher than I would like, but has been doing well overall.

Unfortunately, Mandarin's numbers have started creeping up and I guess I better face the sad reality that he is once again out of remission and has to go back on the juice. :arghh::arghh::arghh: This is our last week of classes and I have another really long day on campus today and tomorrow, but will be home more after that. So I am thinking of starting him back up on Insulin on Wednesday. I am not sure what a good starting dose would be though. 0.5 units? I think I started too low the last time he came out of remission.

I don't really think there is a medical issue - but would it be a good idea to take him to the vet to rule out an infection? Mandarin has been eating well and has been extra social and snuggly. He is really attached to me and probably senses my stress.

My other animals area all doing okay. Lenny is still going to water therapy twice a week. He is walking well, but continues to be very slow and doesn't have the stamina that he had before he ruptured a disc. Iris and Flora are almost a year old now - hard to believe that my two babies are all grown up now.

I hope that everyone is doing well. I have really missed following everyone and I hope to be back more regularly once this crazy semester is over.

Hey Christina! Great to see you back and I am so sorry Mandarin's numbers have creeped up. It's weird how he was 204 the PM of 4/15 then he came down to 63 at +3. I guess his pancreas is sputtering but all I know is when Bubba lost remission each time, his numbers went steadily up. I am sure one of the veteran peeps will be along to guide you on a starting dose.

If it were me, I would take him to have him checked out to see if there is some sort of infection going on, teeth etc. I am so sorry and hope that it's a fluking thing and he is picking up on your stress and will come back down to normal numbers. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh Christina I'm sorry this has happened! I don't know about a starting dose but personally I would take Mandarin to the vet for b/w just to rule out an infection.
Happy to hear that everyone else is doing ok!

I'm not sure why Mandarin is throwing the random higher numbers but just yesterday he was green and he's been mostly green. My guess is he's feeling your stress and personally would wait to restart. Certainly see what others have to say.

Can't believe your girls are almost 1 year already! Hopefully in time Lenny will just continue to improve, it's quite a surgery he had. Sure Walter feels pretty good being he's been pretty steady. Sure lower floors would be great but he's not bad and you didn't have to worry about him too much.

Bummer about the numbers...I would take him to the vetty first to rule anything else out before starting up the juice....his pancreas IS doing something or other there. I've certainly learned that they can hide medical issues way better than I ever thought, so you do never know.

I hope the rest of the semester settles down for you.

I agree you should take him to the vet first to rule out any health issues. He may just be picking up on your stress. I'm not sure he needs insulin yet. He is bringing his numbers back down. I hope things settle down for you soon. I'm glad Lenny is making progress. I hope he continues to do so. Sending prayers.

Thank you everyone! I am realizing how much I have missed being on the board and getting so much support.

I ran home for lunch and he was down to 175 - so still not great. I just talked to his vet and I am taking him in for blood work on Thursday. He is not acting sick, but I guess I should really rule out an infection. I just hate traumatizing him - he really hates going to the vet...

Alright, I gotta run to my next meeting. :coffee:

Hope the vetty visit goes well. He's had a ton of green recently with a few "bad" days so my gut says no infection. Hopefully he'll be green the next few days to avoid a visit

I agree -- a vet visit is in order. I'd also make especially sure Mandarin doesn't need a dental. Dental issues are notorious for throwing a cat out of remission.

Mandarin's numbers aren't awful and it's great that you're catching this early. If the vet doesn't find anything, it may be that he's reacting to your stress.

They ended up moving our regular Tuesday meeting at work to Thursday - so I went ahead and switched Mandarin's appointment to tomorrow. Very glad that they happened to have a cancellation that worked with my crazy schedule. I agree that stress might still have a lot to do with his higher numbers, but I would rather rule out an infection. His last dental was last August and I am pretty sure that that is also the last time that we ran blood work - so he is probably due for a check-up anyways.
